Statesville is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro-Winston Salem metropolitan area. Statesville was founded in 1868 by Scotsman John Alexander Duncan and his wife Anna Mae Chalmers Duncan as a post office on the banks of the Broad River. In 1875, Statesville became a city when it merged with nearby Salisbury. On May 15, 1907, Statesville incorporated as a village under the name of "Inwood" after its president and founder, James Inwood. On July 14, 1912, Statesville renamed itself WinstonSalem after its governor and mayor, Joseph Pritchard Winston Jr., who had previously served as mayor of Raleigh for two terms from 1911 to 1915. The city's first fire station was built in 1918 on Main Street across from what is now the State University of North Carolina campus. The department's first (and only) truck ever was donated by Waffle House founder Clarence Waffle himself upon opening day in 1920. The first streetlight in Winston Salem was installed at Seventh Avenue and West Market Streets in 1928. City services were originally limited to residents living within walking distance of City Hall or their businesses; however due to increased populations and development outside of town limits, annexation bonuses were given to areas that annexed during World War II such as Hunters Hill and Douglas Heights—two areas which would eventually become parts of Raleigh postwar when those neighborhoods experienced rapid growth thanks to new housing developments around Elizabethtown Road/State Highway 221 east of Interstate 95 Spur (I-95). This annexation also added much-needed land towards downtown Winston Salem where several large shopping malls now stand today: One Phase Shopping Center (opened 1993), JCPenney (opened 2003), Macy’s Department Store (opened 2006), Sears Holdings Corporation’s Kmart store opened in November 2007 – creating one large downtown mall serving all five adjacent municipalities plus surrounding villages which have since consolidated into one municipality – known officially as “Downtown Winston Salem” until recently – although this term may be more accurately descriptive given that most major retailers have moved out or been swallowed up by larger complexes along Elizabethtown Road/State Highway 221 east of I-95 Spur currently under construction which will include anchor stores Macy’s(2006) Sears(2013) JCPenney(2013) Neiman Marcus(2007). Downtown Winston Salem has continued to grow even as other major markets Mini Stop convenience stores[?] replaced many older anchors over time such as Safeway[?] before they closed down entirely leaving what used to be called an open ended mini market with few choices surrounded by high end restaurants including Hooters[?]. This redevelopment project is still ongoing with plans for additional retail buildings including hotel space pending approval from the state government since downtown Winston SALEM does not have zoning authority for any additional commercial development!

Statesville, North Carolina is a town in Craven County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by English colonists in 1724 and named after Sir John Statesman, 1st Baronet. The first permanent settler arrived in 1727 and built a log cabin on the banks of the Yadkin River. In 1814, Statesville became an unincorporated community within Craven County and has since been self-supporting. In 1867, Governor James Kenedy granted land to John Smeaton for his plantation called "Smeaton's Hope". This plantation included part of present-day Statesville. Mr. Smeaton died in 1875 and his widow added 5 acres (2 ha) to their Donation Land grant for local use as a public school site known as "Smyth's Chapel". Smyth's Chapel served as the primary school in statesville from 1889 until it closed during World War II due to bombing raids by the Japanese military. In 1944, Mrs. Smeaton donated another acre (1 ha) to provide housing for military families while they were stationed at nearby Fort Bragg during World War II; this project also resulted in the naming of one of the streets that intersects State Street near Fort Bragg Park as Mrs. Smedley Drive in her memory . In 1957, Mrs. Smedley gifted additional land adjacent to her old donation property - now known as Wright Park - which became State House Square where state government services are provided including courts house and library building purposes currently under construction on what will become State House Square Oval with an attached plaza surrounding it - all within walking distance from each other . Today there are over 200 businesses located inside or just outside of statesville limits making it one of America’s fastest growing small towns with no sign that its days are numbered
