Statesville is a small town in North Carolina. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Raleigh-Durham, and it is adjacent to Durham. statesville was founded in 1749 by Colonel James Moore as a trading post on the Yadkin River. In 1814, Statesville became part of Randolph County, North Carolina. In 1865, Statesville became part of Vance County, North Carolina. In 1927, Statesville became part of Wake County and has remained that way since then. The name "Statesville" originated from the fact that all of its land was within two counties - Johnston and Randolph Counties were named for General James Moore's father-in-law and grandfather respectively; John Newton Johnston (1724-1801) represented Vance County in the United States Congress from 1785 until his death in 1802. The first school in Statesvilie opened in December 1749 when Colonel James Moore set up a schoolhouse near what is now downtown Raleigh with materials he had brought overland from Virginia Beach via Hillsborough River ferry service. Classes were held every day except Sundays until March 3rd when sessions were moved to Friday nights because of too much Indian fighting around the area during that time period! Reverend Samuel Johnson served as first teacher with his wife Lois teaching second grade children before moving on to higher grades together later that year under Drury’s instruction until her death on October 10th 1800 due to an illness contracted while serving with Mrs Johnson as their Head Mistress at Hillsborough Female Academy which also happened to be located just east of where today’s Statevilie stands! MrsJohnson would have been only 66 years old when she died but you can tell by looking at her historic home across I-95 from my office window how proud her husband must have been that his Alma Mater could still provide education for future generations after more than four centuries! A plaque marks this spot today just south of Interstate 95 Exit 133B off exit 9A). back then we knew all about chainsaw sharpening so most folks just thought “tha goon done did it again”lol but boy was we wrong cause big Jim Caldwell got his hands dirty real hard right here – he started operations down by Chapel Hill LOL….right next door to where I am sitting writing this today 😉 back then there wasn’t no internet or nothing like there is now so kids learned things differently lol maybe some people still do😉 but overall life went along pretty good without us 🙂 Back then there was also no color TV or anything like air conditioning either so townspeople would put up windows if they wanted cool air or hot water unlike now where everyone has AC whether they want it or not 😉 oklahoma City used to be right down the street from us back then too so we kinda watched them change 🤔

Statesville is a town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,651 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wilson County. The first permanent settlement in what is now Statesville was made on July 1, 1768 by John Sevier and his brother James Sevier. Statesville was named for George Washington, who had visited the area twice during his three years as President of Virginia. In 1838, General Robert Easley laid out the townsite which included present-day Statesville and portions of nearby Lenoir and Caldwell counties. On February 2, 1839 - just over one year after General Robert Easley's death - Statesville became the formal capital of Wilson County when Gov. James Kenedy proclaimed it "the State Capitol of North Carolina." The original courthouse building (now known as the Civic Center) was built in 1849 on present-day Eastern Avenue between High Street and Gadsden Avenue. The building served as a courthouse until 1900 when it was moved to its current location on Meeting Street across from the Russell County Courthouse. In 1865 Confederate general Jubal Early arrived in Statesville with an army seeking refuge from advancing Union forces at Appomattox Court House outside Richmond, Virginia; he quickly learned that there were no real military installations within reach of his headquarters so he Opted to stay in America rather than surrender unconditionally like many other generals did that day. He later said "I found this place [Statesville] veryInvalidlookingI could not help but be impressed with its beauty." During Early's time here he also met future Vice President Ulysses S Grant while staying at Mr White’s boarding house on Eastern Avenue near wherepresent-day High Street meets Gadsden Avenue.. From 1865 until 1870AVery impressive three story white brick Federal Style buildings began to be erected all around town including what are now Fourth Street between Gadsden Ave and Eastern Ave., Third Street east of Main St., Present-day Boulevard (formerly Fourth St.) between Main St./Boulevard and Second St./Gadsden Ave., Administration Building (later First Lt Govt Annex), Post Office (later Mrs White's Store) on Third Street north of Boulevard/Second street west of Main St., Hotel Washington (later USPostal Station) across from Mrs White's Store about two blocks south of Third street east side main street . . . Among these structures were several large frame buildings still standing today such as: Mrs White's store which still stands adjacent to Administration Building; Hotel Washington located across from Mrs White’s store next door; FourthStreet between Gadsden Ave & Eastern Ave.; ThirdStreet north of Boulevard/Second street west side main street These old buildings can be seen parked along various sides or corners near intersection points today including: 4thStreet between MainSt./Boulevard & SecondSt./GadsdnAve.; 3rdStreet northof Boulevard/Secondstreet west side main street
