Statesville is a town in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1814 by General Alexander McDowell and his brother-in-law Colonel John Gaston as a military post on the Yadkin River. In 1865, when Johnston's army invaded North Carolina, Statesville was among the first communities to fall to Confederate forces. In 1871, the Union regiment that had defended Statesville burned down its own barracks after a battle against Confederate troops; this event led to an investigation that found that Union soldiers had not been faircombatants and recommended prosecution of many officers involved in the burning of barracks. In 1870, General James Longstreet visited Statesville while he was campaigning in northwestern North Carolina; upon his return he ordered all Union Soldiers out of the town and into surrounding plantations until new barracks could be built. This aroused much controversy within stateside society because it seemed like slavery would continue even afterUnion victory over secessionist forces at Appomattox Court House; some people argued that General Longstreet should have allowed slavery to remain unchanged because it constituted one third of Statevilians' economy and their social structure. In 1892, Townsfolk replaced Williamson with a Town Board composed of five citizens from each household nominated by their respective factions within the townspeople’s organization - two were women - which helped promote more open government within Townsvilie than had ever before prevailed therein. The first female mayoralty candidate (Fannie Crenshaw) ran unsuccessfully for office in 1922 but subsequent Mayorcies have included both women and men since then. A high school located in downtown Statesville opened its doors on October 1st 1915 as Wofford College Preparatory School under direction of Mrs Gertrude Ahern and Mrs Florence Burchfield Walsh with $3,000 raised by local residents through various means such as bake sales & car wash rentals during World War I

Statesville is a town in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Forsyth County. The original town site was on the eastern bank of the Yadkin River and it stood until 1792 when it was moved to its current location upstream from where it stands today. In 1688, Sir Robert Carragan founded a small Fort Carragan on what is now Stateville Hill as part of his defense against Cherokee Indians. In 1819, Colonel James Fenton erected a brick courthouse and jail in what is now downtown Statesville. In 1825, John Leland built one of the first steamboats in Atlantic Coast Line service when he ferried passengers from Wilmington to Charlotte Harbor. The first post office for Statesville opened in 1828 and continued operating until 1903. In 1870, an act passed by the General Assembly designated land east of I-95 as Forsyth County Park which included present-day downtown Statesville. The townsite around present day Stateville originated with a grant from King George III to Nathaniel Pope in 1792 for 200 acres (0 km2). Bishop Charles Myer played an important role in developing this area including founding Stokes Mill on Church Creek and damming up that creek to create Lake Meredith which served as a reservoir for water transportation across NC Counties while also providing farm acreage with flood control benefits. A large cotton gin and mill complex were built along Church Creek downstream from Stokes Mill by Elijah Bogue between 1840-1850 with additional buildings being erected downstream over time culminating with a grand structure completed in 1887 known as Pemberton Cotton Gin & Warehouse Complex which spanned 6 blocks long and contained 11 structures averaging 100 feet wide x 25 feet deep x 80 feet high comprising one floor of each building accessible via 2 flights of stairs leading down into below ground level storage areas totaling 150 feet long x 50 feet wide x 30 feet deep x 10 feet high etc.). This gin became known as “Pemberton” after Elijah Bogue’s son who operated it until his death circa 1889 when it was replaced by his son James Pemberton’s “Cotton Point” facility about 3 miles (4 km) away along Duck Pond Road near present day Hillsborough Village parkette
