In 1868, a factory was built in Statesville to produce cartridges for the Union army during the American Civil War. The factory produced over 1 million rounds of ammunition. A smallpox vaccination campaign at the Factory in 1870 led to increased demand for ammunition, which caused prices to increase. In 1875, a new company was founded in Statesville to produce percussion caps for handguns. By 1899, manufacturers had started producing black powder cartridges for pistols and revolvers. By 1912, reloading equipment had been added to the arsenal in Statesville so that pistolners could reload their own rounds without having to take them apart each time they needed them. In 1916, a new munitions plant was built adjacent to the old factory with an aim of producing shells specifically for use with artillery pieces along with other arms products such as grenades and mortar rounds. This plant would later become known as United Machine Works (UMW). Ammunition production continued until 1969 when all manufacturing stopped due primarily to economic reasons but some components still continue today at UMW’s facilities around town including Black & Decker batteries and electric tools

During King George's War (1755-1763), Browns forces fought against British troops he had been forced into alliance with during that conflict. In 1766-67, General Edmund Randolph led an army through South Carolina into North Carolina to help stop James Robertson from becoming king of Scotland at home soil following their victory over King George III at Yorktown Heights near Philadelphia). This action solidified Randolph's status within the South Carolinians as one of their most accomplished leaders during that time period - something he would maintain until his death at age 73 years old in 1828). In 1775-76 general Nathanael Greene fought under General Robert Ewing against Lord Cornwallis' British forces at Monckton Hill outside Raleigh which helped secure American independence from Great Britain - something which many consider to have been one of the greatest achievements by any individual during that time period (Greene died young at age 49 years old while serving as colonel commanding 3rd Battalion 2nd Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry)). There he discovered plans being made by Governor Tryon—one which would lead to his impeachment two weeks later; however before anything could happen Howe intervened on behalf of Greene preventing such proceedings from taking place (Hessian plot or not?).
