Statesville is located on the border of Forsyth and Union Counties and has a total area of . It is bordered by Fayetteville to the north, Apex to the east, Cary to the south, and Newton to the west. The primary economic sector of Statesville is agriculture which has been its mainstay for centuries; however there are now several small businesses that have started up in this industry over recent years as well as some large ones such as Tyson Foods Incorporated (Thelargest chicken processor in America) and Coca Cola Enterprises International Incorporation (the world’s largest beverage company). The Chambersburg Mall opened its doors in 2006 as one of two anchors for what will be known as “The Triangle” shopping district which includes much larger stores like Sears, JCPenney & Co., Macy’s Department store etc.; but also smaller businesses that anchor most of these stores including IHOP restaurant chain (the first Tex-Mex restaurant ever built), Pizza Hut & KFC restaurants etc.. This mall had been planned since before CitiesTowne Center opened downtown Raleigh just across from it - opening on Thanksgiving Day 2006 - giving both malls access to each other's shoppers who could walk either mall without having to go through Raleigh proper! There are also several hundred apartments available within walking distance of both malls making Statesville one easy place to live if you're looking for something more than just a job or house!

Statesville was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1785 as a small community on the Yadkin River near present-day Charlotte. In 1847, it became an incorporated town and remained so until 1955 when it became a part of McDowell County. Its name comes from George Washington's home Statevenille on Long Island, New York. The first post office in Statesville was established in 1785 and continued operation until 1865; its second post office was established in 1846 and operated until 1907. The first store in Statesville was built by James Jentzell and opened on Main Street on December 12, 1800. The first school in Statesville was organized on October 3, 1801 by teacher John Aiken under the name of "Second Christian School." The present elementary school building dates to 1924 and the high school building to 1963; both are located on Main Street between West Market Avenue and Tryon Road. In 1956, statesville became one of three towns within McDowell County that were merged into the new Durham metropolitan area; this merger created more than 1 million jobs across all 11 counties within Durham region combined since 1986. As a result of this consolidation process, many businesses have moved out or been closed within statesvilie itself as well as neighbouring towns such as Elizabethtown (to the east), Rocky Mount (to the north), Jordan (to the west) – all situated along Interstate 85 corridor just south of downtown Durham proper!
The first European to visit Statesville was Captain John Smith in 1635. He had a friendly encounter with the native people, but his party was destroyed by a storm while exploring the area. In 1787, General James Johnston founded and commanded an army against the Cherokee Nation. The battle at Muskogee led to a lasting friendship between the United States and the Cherokee Nation. The town of Statesville grew up around this event. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson ordered Colonel George Pickett's brigade to march through Statesville on their way to cross Overton's Creek into Georgia. Statesville experienced another important event in 1906 when it became home to North Carolina’s first agricultural fair.
