The town's first store opened in 1839 and it quickly became a popular stopping off point for farmers heading into Raleigh or Cary for goods or services. This arrangement continued until about 1850 when railways came along and made traveling to these larger cities much easier than ever before for settlers living close to whom transportation would be a real problem! Families continued to live together along religious lines until after World War II when African American families started coming here as well which has contributed significantly to the diversity that exists today within Sanford! The old Catholic church still stands today - serving as a gathering place for residents during evening services as well as housing for many active parishioners during morning Masses! As important as it may have been for locals to continue living close together throughout history, one key development that helped form Sanford into what it is today occurred around 1880 when citizens voted not only To make changes to city ordinances but also adopt plans calling for building a courthouse/ jail complex on Elm Street just east of downtown! This project eventually resulted in construction of what we know now as Courthouse Square - home both then and now to many local businesses including banks (now known as Wells Fargo), law firms (now part of Hogan Lovells LLP) and more! Today’s shopping mall located just south of Courthouse Square contains most all types of retail outlets you could hope for within reach without leaving town limits - making it quite an attractive destination if you happen by while errands are being run! As recently annexed by Chapel Hill Township – following decades long negotiations between municipal officials & developers – much activity has taken place within minutes’ walk thereof including nearly two dozen high school culinary arts programs!!! What began primarily as farmland continues today becoming one half million dollars worth per acre: A true success story resulting from hard work & dedication combined with entrepreneurial spirit !!
