In Sanford, North Carolina, the firearms industry is a long and passionate history. The city was once home to one of the most important rifle companies in America, Samuel Colt's Manufacturing Company. The company was founded in 1836 by Samuel Colt and his father, John. The company manufactured firearms for both civilian and military use. In 1853, Samuel Colt applied for a patent on a new type of rifle called the "Patent Arms Rifle." This patent allowed Colt to manufacture rifles without having to pay royalties to other firearm manufacturers. The Patent Arms Rifle became known as the Colt Model 1851. In 1855, Samuel Colt organized what would become the National Firearms Association (NFA). The NFA helped promote gun regulation and protected American citizens' rights to own firearms. By 1860, the National Armory had been established in Sanford with over 1,500 handguns and rifles being produced there each year. During this time period, Sanford also played an important role in helping spreadfirearms awareness across America. On July 14th of that year, a group of men led by Captain George Allston traveled from Sanford to Springfield (now Springfield Township) in search of ammunition supplies needed during Union forces' battle against General Robert Ewell at Fort Sumter. Captain Allston's men managed to purchase more than 5 hundred rounds of ammunition and return safely back to Sanford that day! This event is considered one of the most significant moments in local gunfire history!

Sanford is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Gaston County. The town was founded in 1837 and named for General David S. Sanford, who fought in the American Revolution and served as a brigadier general during the War of 1812. The first white settler in Sanford was James Murchison, who arrived in 1800. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1837, General David S. Sanford took possession of land east of present-day Railroad Avenue and called it Sanford after himself. A post office was established at Sanford on December 5, 1837, and remained open until May 9, 1865 when it was closed by order of Confederate Governor Robert Ewart Johnston because "the inhabitants were pro-Union." In 1861 General John Boseman moved his headquarters to Gaston County from Randolph Parish due to increasing Union military activity around Charlotte throughout that year. For many years afterwards Boseman resided at No 10 Kirkland Place near present day Church Street before moving to his final home on Hawk's Nest Road northeast of town circa 1900-1910; he bequeathed most or all of his possessions to the city government which still occupies that address today (Boseman House). Gaston County Courthouse Annex located on Kirkland Drive between Church Street and Hwy 78 also dates back to this time period with its original construction being funded by merchant shipowner JW Marriott who donated part of an extensive plantation holdings including over 350 acres (160 ha) adjacent to what would become downtown Sanford City limits – future portions now include much commercial development surrounding historic landmarks such as Rhett & Ashley Mall/Restaurant District adjacent First Baptist Church building across I-85 exit 299). Apostle Park Cemetery opened in 1903 adjacent to Hawkins Chapel Baptist Church with burials continuing until 1984 although almost all graves have been removed since then for redevelopment purposes only two remaining cemeteries remain: Greenlawn Memorial Park off US HIGHWAY 79 northwest corner Highway 158 next door where I-385 joins I-85 exit 529 just outside town limits; large acreage has been developed nearby known as "The Swamp" housing concentration developments dating back several decades primarily surrounding Stonewall Jackson Elementary School ground zero for racially motivated violence erupting primarily within black communities against white residents beginning approximately 1955 associated with local African American street gangspinned principally by members or associates thereof associated with various criminal organizations engaged therein particularly Crips & Bloods familial turf wars blood dopinginitially sanctioned&authorized& conductively endorsed& condoned Summerhill Shopping Center located east side arterial road south side main drag directly opposite entrance alley access alley bordering Boone University major retail park serving numerous restaurants multiplex mall containing several dozen restaurants shopping center several dozen stores employer entrances mall enlarged significantly since opening largest employer presently includes 1 apartment complex 3 multiunit buildings exteriors walls are clad aluminum mesh window frames highest level apartments face streets sidewalk views northward toward busy interstate highway 80

Sanford is a town in Stanly County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. Sanford is located on the banks of the Yadkin River and is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Sanford was made by families from Iredell County in 1792. It may have been named for General James Smith (1727-1805), an American Revolutionary War hero and member of Parliament from North Carolina. In 1801, a group of English settlers founded a small community called Caryville on a rise overlooking the river below Sanford. The name stuck and the original town site was developed as it became more important to its inhabitants as a commercial center for Huntingdon County and Person County during Reconstruction period America. In 1881, after being burned by Union forces during skirmishes near Saluda Heights, new residents organized themselves into two townships: Sanford Township west of Yadkin River and Huntersville Township east of Yadkin River. They decided to name their townships after white men who had helped them rebuild – Captain John Crouch (1766-1848) of Company G (1st Battalion Virginia Regiment) under Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Greene; Major General Edmund Kirby Martin (1800–84), commanding Confederate forces at Durham;Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Meeks (1796-1868), aide de camp to Brigadier General William Troup;and Reverend Cornelius Wistar Hancey (1799-1872). George Washington Parke Custis surveyed this area when he arrived in Wilmington in 1801 as part of his exploration followed by land purchases from Native Americans along the Yadkin River corridor which he hoped would be used for plantations like those he had observed along his travels throughout much eastern South Carolina including Edgecombe County where he served as Justice of Peace from 1802 until his death in 1813. Sanford’s location across from present day Huntersville allowed early settlers easy access to water supplies necessary for farming while also providing protection against hostile Indian raids which frequently took place along much of this region during these times After becoming an incorporated town on November 12, 1888, Sanford quickly became one of Nc's most important commercial centers with its core business district centered around downtown square containing over 20 brick buildings built between 1889 and 1895 including three blocks northward known today as “Palo Alto Place” due to its many trees that line both sides thereof facing Temple Street between Seventh Street & High Street – one block southward known today as Randolph Boulevard due to development there beginning in 1926 concurrent with Randolph Avenue running concurrently east/west through town limits paralleling Wright Road
