Salisbury is a small town in the state of North Carolina. The population was 7,899 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Salisbury is located on the eastern edge of the Piedmont region of North Carolina, bordered by Currituck County to the south, Wilkes County to the west, and Surry County to the north. The town was named for Sir Walter Raleigh, who founded it in 1584 as a trading post on Roanoke Island. The first settlement in what is now Salisbury was made when English colonists explored Roanoke Island in 1585. They established a trading post there and named it after Sir Walter Raleigh's home town of Salisbury in England. When Raleigh's expedition failed to find any valuable resources on Roanoke Island, his followers decided to settle there permanently instead of returning home empty-handed. In 1614, General Samuel Johnston sailed from Jamestown with 5 hundred men and fifty guns and landed at Provincetown Point on Roanoke Island with instructions to establish a permanent colony there. However, he found only hostile natives living among the native people and abandoned his plans for colonization before reaching land that would later be known as Salisbury Township. In 1868, Queen Victoria visited America and traveled through what is now Salisbury during hergrand tour of America'S colonies including Canada (the first time such an event had been attempted). After her visit, she ordered new construction at Fort Stroud near present day Salisbury which began in 1869 and continued until 1879; this project included enlarging and rebuilding Fort Stroud into one large military fortification that remained operational until 1931. Salisbury became an incorporated village on December 12th 1902 after being approved by a vote of its citizens; at that time it consisted of just five buildings: two churches (St John's Episcopal Church & First Presbyterian), two schools (Salisbury School District No 1 & Second Grade School), one doctor's office (Dr James Aiken) & one Masonic Lodge (Fidelity Masons #224). On October 25th 1906 by ordinance passed by New Hanover County Councilsalisbury voted to annex Currituck County making salisbury not only part of NC but also fully within SCA boundaries! On November 11th 1907 River Road between Gwynns Ferry Rd & US Highway 29 became clinically obsolete as Dr J H Patton MD pronounced it "unscientifically impossible" for anyone other than locals or Healers without personal experience or training associated with said road ever travelling more than 20 mph over curbside area while using vehicles 300 lbs or less! As vehicular travel increased along said route beginning about 1990 thru about 2005 rates have quadrupled becoming unsafe for both drivers/passengers & equipment alike @ 40 mph or greater speed!! This has led many business owners (& property taxpayers) to file suit against RCDN management seeking injunctive relief pending final roadway design decisions currently under review... [sic]

Salisbury is a town in Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. Salisbury was founded in 1804 by refugees from the Cherokee War. It became a town in 1907 and was named for George Washington's birthplace, nearby Mount Vernon. The community of Salisbury is home to the Mount Vernon Hotel and Spa., which has been operated as a luxury hotel since 1912. The first settler in what is now Salisbury settlement was James Meeks who arrived on May 10, 1804 with his family from Georgia. He built the first house on what is now Main Street in what is now Salisbury Township. The original town site included all that exists today within Guilford County including parts of Mount Vernon to the north and east while also including present-day University Hill to the west and south. In 1907, when North Carolina became a state, Salisbury became one of its counties; it consisted of only part of Guilford County until 1920 when it merged with adjoining Carteret County to form new Guilford County – then known as “thetriangle” because three roads crossed its center: I-95 (now US 19), NC 176 (now US 421), and NC 287 (now I-77). In 1924, during reconstruction following Hurricane Fayetteville* (*Fayetteville was destroyed by an EF5 tornado on September 20th 1992) much of downtownSalisbury were destroyed or heavily damaged making it difficult for pedestrians or drivers to access even though most buildings still standing were not used after that date as they had been converted into private homes or businesses like many other towns hit hard by post-tornado rebuilding efforts. As late as 1961 there were no business streets remaining outside downtown Apartments/motels/shops lining both sides of Main Street between Davidson Avenue –formerly called State Road #1–and Patterson Avenue collectively called “State Road #2” Today these same apartments & motels line up starting about 1 block east along Patterson Avenue past Easton Elementary School continuing until you reach Interstate 275 just north of Interstate 95 whereupon State Road #1 becomes Wilson Boulevard which runs parallel to I-95 before terminating at Tryon Street near some industrial sites currently occupied by Piedmont Health Care located across Wilson Boulevard from Easton Elementary School Continue this freeway walksouthwest along Wilson Boulevard stop at Tryon Street go east back around Wilson Boulevard
