Salisbury is a town in Gastonia County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,637 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the four towns located in Gastonia County and ranks as the 5th most populated community of any size within Gastonia County. Salisbury's economy revolves around agriculture and manufacturing. The first European to visit what is now Salisbury was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 on his journey from Rome to Carolina del Norte (now Miami-Dade County, Florida). He named it "Salsomaggiore", meaning "salute" or "farewell". In 1699, Captain John Smith explored this area and named it for Rear Admiral Sir George Seymour who had commanded British forces at the Battle of Monmouth Court House that year. In 1801, General James Moores built a small fort here while he skirmished with Creek Indians near present day Clayton. The fort served as headquarters for General Moore's Creek Campaign Against The Cherokees which culminated in their removal from eastern North Carolina to Georgia. During these campaigns General Moores received many injuries which led him to build a hospital here on July 4, 1802 which remain open today as Salisbury Hospital Incorporated. The town of Salisbury was incorporated on May 1, 1886 by act of the State Legislature following passage of the consolidation bill by Governor Charles Broughton concurrent with an effort by Mayor Jno Hines to become one municipality with two distinct cultures - white and black - although both communities were considered part of Gastonia County until its dissolution in 1995 when all municipalities were consolidated into one single unit under new leadership. At its incorporation date, Salisbury had a population estimated at 1,500; however during its first decade it only housed 160 residents due largely to lack of space within existing homes and businesses along Main Street including Rheingold Tobacco Company building which still stands adjacent to the original courthouse Grounds across from First Baptist Church today housing apartments off Second Avenue east side shopping center also home to several other smaller businesses including C&L Pizza & Pastry Shop established 1865 closed 1984) A major event that occurred during this time period that continues through present day includes annual Elks Lodge Showcase Paradeita parade held annually throughout downtown Saturday starting out doors then moving inside via streetside alleyways culminating with grandstand view from Rotunda Plaza north side past performance areas where food booths are set up before parade ends up front

Salisbury is a town in Fayette County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Salisbury is named after Sir Walter Raleigh and his courtiers who founded the town in 1719. It was formally incorporated as a town on December 5, 1871. In 1907, Salisbury became one of thirty-six towns located in the newly created Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The economy of Salisbury has been based primarily on agriculture since its incorporation as a town. The first settler in what is now Salisbury was John Coffin who arrived around 1719. He built the first house on present day State Street and named it "Coffin's Fort". By 1800, there were over 100 settlers living in what is now Salisbury Township and Cary County. Many of these early settlers made their home near where they worked or raised crops because it was more accessible than areas further away from the river or mountains for hunting and fishing resources. In 1871, when Fayette County was formed from portions of Cabarrus and Durham counties, Salisbury became one of its six townships within that new county. At that time, it had a population of just under 1,000 residents and consisted mainly of farmers and their families living along present day State Street between Johnston Street (now Avery Avenue) and I-95/US 412 exit 7B which served as the main commercial district for the township. The post office which opened in 1865 remained open until 1957; however mail service to most parts of eastern North Carolina ceased withits closure by Ulysses S Grant following World War II due to budget cutsbacks by then Assistant Postmaster General Harry A Watson Jr.. During much of the 20th century various businesses operated outfitted with large power saws used to cut logs off trees near present day Avery Avenue; this area came to be known locally as "The Logging Road". Today only a few broken pieces of Unsure wooden fences remain from those days dating back to about 1915 when local lumberjacks would bring their tools downriver each morning for hours cutting big logs free from old growth forests adjoining Sanford Lake reservoir! It should be noted that even though many businesses closed during this time period due to competition from other types of businesses set up throughout eastern North Carolina during this boom times era such as automobiles dealerships etc., many people – including some long term residents – still remember those good ol' days when everything centered around farming activities such as harvesting hay bales off property late into the night or simply coming home late one evening after working all week long - not driving anywhere! Today's economy is based largely on agricultural production with larger employers located within close proximity to homes making life very easy for familiesoperated farms while providing economic stability for rural communities across Eastern North Carolina especially given global market conditions affecting both production costs associated with land prices & acreage sizes etc.; while also supporting numerous community organizations important unto our regionν
