Salisbury is a town in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first firearms cleaning kit was developed in 1892 by John Moses Browning and patented on November 3, 1892. At that time Salisbury had no municipal police department and all law enforcement activities were done by the Cherokee Nation militia. In 1897 salishawas developed as a local term to describe someone who cleaned firearms without involving any chemicals or other means of destruction; it still survives as an unfriendly term among some residents today. The first Municipal Police Department was organized in 1905 and Salisbury became a city on February 14, 1907; however, it remained primarily a rural community until 1949 when it annexed the adjacent unincorporated communities of Wellston and Middlebrooks. On July 1, 1948 gun-cleaning supplies manufacturer Simon Wesson Corporation introduced its Gun Cleaning Kits for retail sale to consumers in Salisbury (then known as "Wellston"). This made salishawas an accepted term for those who wished not to involve with handgun cleaning or destruction processes which then required either chemical use or using traditional methods such as boiling water and soap solution which created harmful spent powder residues left over from previous shooting sessions

Today it remains an important cultural center for the region as well as home to many businesses and industries including aluminum production, dairy farming, manufacturing and retailing along with several universities including UNC Chapel Hill and Pembroke College; all within walking distance of each other. Salisbury is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,459 at the 2000 census. Salisbury is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Salisbury was founded by settlers in 1795 and named for Sir John Salisbury, 3rd Baronet of Windlesham (1692-1737), who had purchased land east of the Outer Banks from the Colony of Virginia. The first school in Salisbury was built on High Street in 1802. In 1821, Salem College was established as a private institution serving boys only and it continued to do so until 1918 when it became coeducational. The town officially incorporated as a village on December 12, 1907. The name honor Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison (1807-1893) who served as Superintendent of Naval Forces during World War I and later as president of Yale University and an author. In 1926, Salisbury joined Durham City through annexation but separated again in 1978 when Durham City annexed more villages than Salisbury could absorb without breaking away; this led to the current name given to both towns: "Alamance County Borough." On May 5th, 2014, Alleghany Mall announced that they would be closing their doors forever due to economic restraints placed upon them by state legislators with plans for a new shopping center planned for Eagle Ford County just outside of town limits which would have required significant alterations to both buildings and landscaping aroundtown which would have destroyed much cultural heritage associated with Alleghany Mall including its namesake river drive entrance plaza where shoppers could get lost for hours trying to find their way back inside if they wanted to leave - effectively condemning what little cultural heritage remained within town limits after years of neglect by city officials seeking instead development opportunities outside boundaries completely cashing in on what once were community assets rather than preserving them for future generations
