Salisbury is a town in Rockingham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Salisbury is the home of NCSU's Salisbury campus. It is also the home of Anheuser-Busch InBev's North Carolina brewing operations. The first permanent settler in what would become Salisbury was Nicholas White who arrived in 1775 from Portsmouth, England. He platted and named his land "Salisbury" after his birthplace, Salisbury Cathedral in Northamptonshire, England. A post office called "Salisbury" was established in 1827, and remained open until 1907. The town core developed around two churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1824) and Second Baptist Church (founded 1829). The first school was built in 1828 by Rev. Alexander Robertson as a one-room log cabin school on what is now Courthouse Square. The current building opened as the first high school in Cumberland County on October 12, 1888 by then-Governor Tryon Wofford with $1,000 from local businessman Ira Hargrave Jr.. At that time it served as both a primary and secondary education for students from central and eastern Cumberland County; it closed during World War II because of wartime bombings. In 1896–97 an actwas passed authorizing creation of an independent municipality within Rockingham County to be known as "Salisbury". However due to strong opposition by portions of the business community including Anheuser-Busch InBev who were located east of downtown Salisbury along High Street their request for incorporation was refused on July 15th 1897 . On January 1st 1898 citizens of Salisbury petitioned Governor John Connally for incorporation into the new county but this too was refused because Anheuser Busch Incorporated had not moved beyond its original boundaries which included all or part of present day Rockingham County After years of wrangling between residents and businesses over annexation into other counties or lack thereof some finally agreed to annexe themselves toRockinghamCounty on December 1st 1904 when they voted 3 – 0 to allowfor incorporationofthetownofSalinvilleintoRockinghamcountYonJanuary1st1998

Salisbury, North Carolina is a town in Wilson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. The Salisbury post office has been in operation since 1887. The town is located on the eastern edge of the Pisgah National Forest. The first people to live here were Paleo-Indians who lived along the river and hunted game such as deer and bear. They also built moccasin huts from logs found near by. By 1700 AD, English settlers had arrived in what is now Wilson County and started trading with the local Indians for goods including horses, corn, tobacco and other items. In 1719 a group of British colonists named John Rutherford founded a small settlement called Granville on Hiwassee River just west of present-day Salisbury. This site was chosen because it offered good grazing land for livestock and free access to water resources needed by Europeans living in this area at that time. By 1728 Rutherford had moved his family to what is now Salisbury and began to build a cabin there which he named "Salisbury". He also purchased some land around his cabin for farming purposes which he used until his death in 1775. In 1781 Presbyterian missionaries came to this area seeking converts to their faith so they could spread Christianity throughout North America. When they reached Salisbury they found that many people were still practicing their Indian ancestors' way of life which they considered paganism. One of the missionaries, Rev John Aiken (1758–1836), preached against this lifestyle change so much that some members of the community refused to convert even after being shown scriptures from God's word documenting His plan for humanity.(1) Reverend Aiken's sermon soon changed many hearts when he demonstrated how easy it was for anyone with common sense to change their ways if given enough opportunity.(2) Consequently, many people converted within weeks or months after arriving here.(3) Reverend Aiken's work helped solidify Smithfield as an early African American churchtown here in Wilson County while also helping form lifelong relationships between white Christian men and black women.(4) In 1807 Colonel James Mooney established Fort Raleigh on Hiwassee River opposite present day Salisbury(5). Mooney wanted protection from hostile Native Americans who lived nearby(6). He also hoped to improve trade relations with England through this outpost which would provide him easier access to goods coming down the Ohio River from that country($). At its peak Fort Raleigh employed about fifty soldiers but it only lasted one year due mainly to lack of food supply and Indian attacks(7). Raleigh eventually fell victim to Indian raids during 1809-10 making trade impossible$ during these years NC military forces patrolled along both sides of Hiwassee river constantly looking for enemy activity.$also during this time several Cherokee chiefs decided not To sell any more land concessions so war seemed inevitable.$ However before hostilities began any large scale action occurred two small groups led by Maj James Moore journeyed upriver valley searching unsuccessfully for friendly Indians until finally finding them resting at another location 24 miles below fort Raleigh whereupon Capt Robert Epps destroyed all evidence leading authorities back home convinced there was no danger involved $Despite having little success skirmishing continued intermittently until late 1830s when main force Blue militia under Col James Hargrove captured Cherokee Nation village approximately 25 miles east o southeast Of Salshire establishement
