In 1838, the United States acquired the Mexican state of Texas from Mexico and it became an American territory. In 1845, the US Congress passed an act that annexed North Carolina and began to name Rocky Mount after then-Governor Robert E. Lee of Virginia. In 1865, Confederate general Pee Wee Crayton besieged Rocky Mount with his forces and took over the town. As part of efforts to protect Union soldiers stationed in nearby Fort Fisher, Confederate forces also burned down buildings in Rocky Mount on December 12th 1865. On January 1st 1886, the US Supreme Court ruled that Rocky Mount was an incorporated city within North Carolina and thusly gave its citizens full rights as per state laws at that time.
Rocky Mount is a city in North Carolina, United States. The population was 24,965 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County and part of the Asheville metropolitan area. Rocky Mount is named after Mount Mitchell in Scotland, which was then part of Great Britain. The first permanent settler in what would become Rocky Mount was James Robertson who built a cabin on an old grant near present-day Main Street in 1814. The town's first mayor was Andrew Johnson and it had two stores and one blacksmith shop until 1861 when the state legislature moved Raleigh to Durham as the state capital. In 1871, Rocky Mount received its charter from the North Carolina General Assembly and became an incorporated city with 397 residents. In 1930, African Americans made up just over 20% of Rockymount's population but they were still making significant contributions to both its economy and social life. Black Owned Businesses (BOS) accounted for more than 60% of all businesses in downtown Rockymount during that time while public education fared much better than white owned businesses throughout most of rural Davidson County where most people lived. In 1970 Cherokee Middle School opened doors for African American students statewide when enrolment surpassed whites at Duke University's Park Avenue Campus; however this was only the beginning as Africana studies programs dominated Rockymount’s curriculum from preschool through college level until today by percentage or total enrollment with UNC Asheville’s College Chapel Hill program being second nationally following Tuskegee Airmen Association College Preparatory Academy Rockymount has always been home to many quality organizations including: Appalachian Heritage Museum operated by volunteers since 1978, Black Panthers of America Chapter 930 which meets monthly at First Baptist Church located on High Street between Salisbury Road & US 301st Ave., Boy Scouts Troop 527 Zionist troop #527 founded in 1984/1985 serves food to local troops every Thursday night at 7 p.m., Sonsky Brothers Pizza - original location on High Street between Salisbury Road & US 301st Ave., Warrior Arts Center - adult contemporary dance classes available Mondays thru Fridays 10 a.m.-12 a.m., Presbyterianism – churches services are held each Saturday morning followed by dinner at their church amphitheater with live music provided by veterans from nearby Ft Bragg National Military Readiness Center playing country gospel music throughout afternoon Today there are also numerous restaurants including: Applebees(), Chowhound (), PNC Bank (), Red Lobster (), Jamba Juice (), Dunkin' Donuts (), Outback Steakhouse () Downtown Rockymount contains several popular places for shopping such as Macy's Department Store (), Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney (), Drugstore/pharmacy () The mountain biking trails around town offer excellent opportunities for recreational cyclists looking for challenging downhill rides as well as flat roads suitable for motocross racing or other off-road activities not too far from downtown Rockymount proper ().

Rocky Mount is a town in North Carolina located near the intersection of US Highway 421 and NC Highway 278. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. RockyMount is one of the oldest towns in North Carolina and was established in 1785 by Captain John Roanoke. The first settlers to Rocky Mount were Quakers who came from Philadelphia in 1785. They built a small cabin on what is now known as Main Street. The first store was opened in 1820 by Isaac Poole, Jr.. It was later renamed Rocky Mount Store and Post Office. In 1864, Captain John Haleigh founded Haleigh's Mill on present day Oliver Road which became the largest textile mill in North Carolina. In 1865, Rocky Mount became part of Henderson County when it was created from parts of Johnston and Person Counties. In 1876, General James Longstreet fought at Mill Creek against Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee. After Longstreet's victory at Battle of Sandy Hook on July 10th, many people began to move to Rocky Mount due to the new opportunities available there since Reconstruction had ended following the Civil War. By 1900, more than 50% of the population lived in Rocky Mount proper while only 10-15% lived outside of town limits (today’s eastern edge). Rocky Mount experienced significant growth after World War II as many farmers turned their attention towards growing food for local consumption instead of exporting products overseas like they had done during World War I. This growth led to increased traffic along main streets and also made possible additional development such as an high school, hospital and numerous homesites developed around Main Street between 1945-1960 including: Stroud Homes subdivision (now known as Highland Park), Goodnight Drive (later known as Bellemead Drive), Plantersville Drive (later known as Ridgely Place) and Alamo Heights Drive (currently called Rockingham Parkway). A number of businesses that once thrived downtown such as Salomon Brothers AG & Co., First National Bank & Trust Company, JBL Rubber Company et al., declined subsequent tothe economic recession which hit most communities hard during this time period; however some notable exceptions such as Beasley's Hardware continued operations until shortly before its closure in 2009 due largely to demand from customers who preferred not to visit downtown during busy times In recent years several businesses have closed within sight or sound of home with little hope for reopening should business conditions improve; these include ABC Carpet Cleaners Cutlass Glasses Outlet Store which filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year after operating for over 20 years without any major problems but also Toys ‘R Us which announced plans last weekto close all its stores across America by 2019 citing low sales levels caused by端峰的消费者对超市价格衰退令人失望。
