However, many militia members continued to subscribe to their local transacting gun magazines until they could no longer do so without breaking federal law (i.e., during the Civil War).

Rocky Mount is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest municipality in McDowell County and one of the most rural. Rocky Mount is located on the banks of the Little Pigeon River and straddles both sides of I-85. The first settlement in what became Rocky Mount was made by Elias Hicks in 1792. Hicks had arrived with his family from Virginia during the American Revolution and began to farm near present-day Rocky Mount. In 1807, John Stephenson founded a trading post near present-day Rocky Mount,adesking for goods brought by riverboats overland from Tennessee or Kentucky. By 1814, Stephenson's post had become known as RockyMount because of its resemblance to an mountain peak called "Rocky mount" in nearby Roanoke County. In 1830, James Warton established a sawmill on Hiwassee Creek behind present-day Rockymount High School and named it Warton's Mills after himself and his father, James Warton Sr., who had also started a mill there earlier that year. By 1840, when Appalachian social mores changed so markedly that men were no longer content to work only six weeks per year on their farms but instead worked twelve months out of the year for large employers such as woolen mills or ironworks, Beaverdam Inn (now Beaverdam Hotel) became an important meeting place for county officials and farmers who came to trade with him during this time period. A new courthouse was built in 1868 by contractor Jno Aiken aftera design by William Nash Jr.. Nash also designed several other notable buildings including Fort Tryon Park which served as home courthouse until 1911 and still stands today as a mixed use center featuring art galleries and retail stores; Presbyterian Church (1867), now First Baptist Church; Masonic Lodge No 2 (1875), now Darlington Methodist Episcopal Zion Church; Christ Episcopal Cathedral (1883), now Gothic Revival style Temple Beth Elohim; Egyptian Mound No 5 (1901), later replaced by Knoxville Veterans Memorial Cemetery;and two schools: McCrary Academy (now Presbyterian Day School) opened in 1865–66 then closed due to lack of students while Highland Elementary School operated until 1944 before becoming Appalachian Bible College; McCrary Academy reopened in 1965–66 after serving as elementary school into high school.; Wright High School openedSummer 1988 then closed due to budget cuts leaving only Scotsman Middle/High School open which merged with neighboring Scotsman East HS into one entity known today as Mountain View Charter Schools In 1907 an act authorizing purchase of 5 acres east of Hiwassee Creek road westward from Ricketts Road opening up what would become modern day RockyMount Village resulted in establishment of townships within McDowell County resulting in incorporation - Caney Valley Township on November 15th 1907 boundaries unchanged since said date while Pinecrest Township newly created from part Caney Valley Township plus land west side Richter Road east side Hiwasse Creek thence northward six miles formed modern day Montgomery County including much unincorporated area annexed between 1958 & 1960 - Blanton Hills Township renamed Lakewood Borough following annexation referendum held May 14th 1960 remaining boundaries unchanged except township seat relocated from CaneyValleyTownshipToMontgomeryCountyEffectiveDate&sidefield names changed thereto reflecting changes took place therein since then - Iron Mountains Wilderness Park forming effective date September 25th 1990 boundary unchanged

That same year saw another milestone for Rocky Mount when it became home to one of the first post offices in Cherokee County withestablishment ofthe mail service between Asheville and Lenoir City on May 30th
