Rocky Mount is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,734 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1836 by Scots-Irish immigrants who had come to America to work on the railroad. Rocky Mount is located in the Appalachian Mountains and is one of the few remaining small towns in the area. The first settler in Rocky Mount was Michael Boyle, who came from County Clare, Ireland in 1836. He built a cabin near what is now Bearcat Road and named it RockyMount after his home country. Other early settlers were John D' Arcy and James Murtagh both from Killarney, Ireland. In 1840 Michael Boyle's son Daniel built a log cabin on what is now Main Street which became known as Bolton House after Daniel Boyle's brother-in-law, John Bolton (1784-1859). The first school in Rocky Mount was taught by Mrs. Rebecca Richardson (1799-1864), an American slaveholder who befriended the students and later donated land for a schoolhouse. The first public building erected in Rocky Mount was a storeroom or grain cellar added to the Bolton House around 1851 by David Macdonald (1800-1860). In 1861 Presbyterian minister Revs Payson Blair and Archibald Campbell began services at what is now First Baptist Church; this church still stands today. Reverend Blair also started Rocky Mount Academy which offered education until 1896 when it merged with Northern Methodist College to form Davidson University School of Veterinary Medicine & Agriculture; Drs Donald Wulfeldt (1925-) and Mary Weldon Kapp(1928-) are currently among its board members! In 1882 "The Scotsman" newspaper reported that coal mines were being developed just south of RockyMount; however this development did not materialize until 1888 when company engineers discovered anthracite coal seams nearby that could be mined profitably! Coal production increased rapidly during these years with over 100 miles of road being laid out transporting goods to market including many schools, churches, hospitals etc., as well as new homes for those living within easy driving distance of mines! "The Scotsman" also reported on February 2nd 1865 that Ayer Company had established an ironworks northeast of town along SR 642 about 12 miles east of current day Bearcat Road; however this operation did not take off until 1870 when local investors purchased shares! By 1886 there were 10 smelters operating locally producing over 1 million tons of steel per year! However due largely to technological improvements made during World War IIsteel production decreased significantly while other industries thrived!" Rocky mount has seen some interesting changes throughout its history: In 1936 its founders - Scotish Irish immigrants - decided they wanted their community more like Scotland so they renamed it Glencoe following their home country's most famous Highlander – Sir Walter Scott. This change didn't sit well with some people since Glencoe still sounded Scottish but eventually everyone got used to it and life carried on as normal...until something changed... On December 15th 2009 local residents heard reports someone had broken into several businesses then set fire to them leaving behind evidence inside including brand new computers!!! What could have happened next? No one knows for sure but locals speculate somebody may have been angry because no ONEWas arrested!!!!!! Some even think it might have been related to last year's Christmas season riots happening all around north carolina ??? Who knows??? But regardless of why things went wrong strange things keep happening here so yeahhhhhhhhhhh

The town of Rocky Mount, North Carolina was settled in 1775 by Revolutionary War veterans. The town was named for General George Washington and his Marquis de Lafayette. The area that now makes up Rocky Mount was part of the Cherokee Nation before it was ceded to the United States in 1813. In 1865, Rocky Mount became a county seat and remained so until 1971 when it became a independent city. Rocky Mount is located in Chatham County, North Carolina on the Yadkin River. It sits on the edge of Pisgah National Forest and straddles the border of both Roanoke County, Virginia to the south and Robeson County, North Carolina to the north. As such, RockyMount has a rich history that Includes many events which have shaped its present day. One event which had a significant impact on Rocky Mount is the Battle of Gettysburg which took place on July 4th 1863 during the American Civil War. This battle resulted in over 65% casualties for Confederate forces with over 50% of those killed within minutes after clashes began between Union troops and Confederate cavalry units at Cemetery Hill outside of town center (now known as battlefield Park). Over 3 thousand men were killed or wounded during this encounter including five members of Congress from nearby Roanoke County who fought alongside General Robert E Lee’s army
