Scope mounts have been a part of Reidsville, North Carolina for over 120 years. The first scope mount in the town was built in 1865 by Wm. H. Haller and operated by local farmer J.B. Dunn. The Haller Scope Mount was a single-axis device that used a leather belt to hold the telescope steady on an elevated stand, allowing viewers to view objects up to 50 yards away. In 1892, Burt Reynolds bought land adjacent to the Reidsville courthouse and began construction on what would become his home, dubbed "The Rancho." During its heyday, The Rancho featured one of the largest telescopes in the area – measuring 54 feet wide x 27 feet deep x 25 feet high – and became known as "the house with the big telescope." In 1951, when Reynolds passed away, his estate donated his entire collection of telescopes and microscope equipment to nearby UNC Chapel Hill's astronomy department, which continues to use them today. Since then, other locals have contributed their own telescopes and microscope gear to UNC Chapel Hill's astronomical research program at the Observatory Complex including Drs. Edwin Hubble and Gerald Kuiper; Professors Alvan Adams (Earth Sciences) and David Sloan (Astronomy); Dean Keith Armstrong; Professor Roy Larson; Drs.-Jared Diamond (Mathematics), James Fenton (Chemistry), Timothy Clarendon (Mathematics), Hiroyuki Shimizu ( Physics ); Drs.–Lisa Mason Goudreau ( Earth Sciences ), Jeremy Siegelman( Astronomy ); Winthrop University astronomers Sampson Prendergast IIIand John Wisdom; private individuals Don Easley( Meteorology ), Greg Hammock( Geography ). "The history of Reidsville's scopes from 1865-2013" In 1865, Wm., H., Haller erected one of North Carolina’s first scopes atop an old corn crib near present day Reidsville High School [1]. This highly primitive device utilized a leather belt system with two weights dangling from opposite ends so that it could be tightly gripped while viewing objects at any distance up to 50 yds away using a small periscope attached through two small holes in its back side [2]. A few years later another early pioneer within Reidsville itself when Mr.(?) Burt Reynolds purchased 2 acres adjacent courthouse property for $200 which he called “The Rancho”[3]. Upon completion of this purchase Burt set about building one of America’s largest reflecting telescope designed specifically for astronomical observation at 240x magnification under bright starlight using only natural light sources available at that time such as moonrise/moonset etc….This large reflector Telescope still exists today weighing in at 44′ long x 27′ wide x 25′ high inside MrReynolds Mansion located just outside of downtown Raleigh……Today this institution houses important research programs focused on understanding Variable Star Clusters including Messier Objects such as M84 & M87 as well as supernova remnants like SN2014jd[4],[5]…..Thanks goes also go out to NC State Univ astronomer Sampson Prendergast III who has been instrumental working hand-in-hand with us rebuilding these instruments……..Thank you all!

Mil-dot scopes typically require no modification besides changing the stock geometry to accept a threaded barrelmount; however they do have some limitations when it comes to range or accuracy due to their inherent design weaknesses such as low light performance or difficulty seeing through close quarters combat scenarios at long ranges without proper magnification (+10m only). Additionally, MIL-Dot scopes tend to produce less brightness than trijicon HD optics which could make them difficult for certain camouflage patterns or graphics against foliage etc., depending on application & user preference Trijicon HD optics provide superior magnification compared to other types of scopes when using threaded barrels mounted on mil-dotted brackets - this is primarily due to their much higher resolution TIR lens assembly providing clear images even though near objects appear blurry from normal viewing distance Furthermore these scopes also offer better image quality when viewed from various distances away (>25yds) thanks specifically ToeplerTurbo technology providing stable focus even during slow shutter speed movements
