Reidsville is a town in Robeson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. The community began as a small settlement on the eastern edge of Robeson County and rapidly grew with the opening of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Railroad in 1881. The town's name derived from John Reid, one of the original settlers. The first store in Reidsville was built by Denton Richards in 1882. A post office was established in 1893, and it continued to be operation until 1907. In 1903, Reidsville incorporated as a town under the name of Robbinsville. The name change came about because Robbinsville had been proposed for another community near Winston-Salem but had not received enough votes to become an official city. In 1925, Reidsville merged with nearby Stonehill to form one municipality which still operates as a separate village today: Stonehill Village (). In 1930, Reidsville annexed parts of neighboring Jacksonville Township. On April 15, 2000—the day after Hurricane Floyd made landfall on North Carolina—Reidsville became one of two communities within Robeson County that were closed following Governor Yancey's Executive Order No. 98-02 (see 2000 North Carolina hurricanes). This order prohibited open-air shopping and other activities that would have resulted in constructive destruction or loss of property during storm surge flooding caused by Floyd; however, most businesses reopened shortly thereafter without any problems According to the 2010 census,[1] Reidsville has 2,868 residents[2]. The racial makeup is 94% white (non-Hispanic), 2% black or African American,[3], 0% Native American/Alaska Native,[4], and 1% Asian.[5] Hispanic or Latino residents make up 1% of the population.[6] There are no reported minority status or ethnicity data for any other race group

Reidsville is a census-designated place located in Henderson County, North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,471. The name Reidsville was given to the community by General James Wilkinson during his campaign for Governor of North Carolina in 1851. The area now known as Reidsville was first settled by Scots-Irish settlers in 1798. The town received its charter from the State of North Carolina on November 11, 1824. It became an incorporated municipality on February 3, 1830. On January 10, 1868, it lost its charter and became a village again under the name of Reidsville. The village had a population of 318 when it lost its charter and reverted to being a hamlet again on October 12th of that year. On July 15th 1903 Farmers and Mechanics Association Incorporated (FMAA) organized at Reidsville with 9 members and started their own Grain Elevator business which remains one of the largest in this area to this day! FMAA provides education programs for local farmers through Member Clubs & Neighborhood Associations throughout Henderson County!
The Reidsville community was founded in 1827 by George and Anna Reid. They named their settlement after their father, James Reid, who had come to the country in 1785. The Reid family operated a mill on the site for many years until it was destroyed by fire in 1868. In 1919, the town of Reidsville was incorporated and became a part of Greensboro, North Carolina.
