When Reidsville became a town in 1839, it was the only community in the then-new county of Vance County. The population of Reidsville was just over fifty and there were no schools. As a result, most of the citizens gathered around their homes to clean firearms and perform other firearm related tasks. One of these citizens was John Homan, who started manufacturing gun cleaning kits in his home in 1905. The first kit that John Homan made consisted of a small pan with oil and water inside, a brush, and some rags. This kit allowed customers to clean firearms by using simple methods such as soaking the rifle or shotgun in water for a few minutes then wiping it down with rags. Over time, other manufacturers followed suit with their own versions of this kit including Homan's son Donald Homan (1911-1993) who created the "Dirty Gun Cleaning Kit" which still remains popular today. Today, many people across America enjoy cleaning their firearms through various kits available from various sellers online or at local sporting goods stores. Reidsville is a small town in North Carolina, located on the border of Clay and Union Counties. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greensboro-Winston-Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a post office in 1892, and was named after John Reids, an early settler in Clay County. In 1907, the post office moved to its current location. The town has been continuously inhabited since 1892, when it was laid out by Drury Waddell and others around what is now the intersection of High Street and Washington Avenue. The first store in Reidsville was built by Mr. James Fenton on Main Street in 1902. A Lutheran church was built in 1908, followed by a Methodist church in 1910. In 1912, Reidville won its first school board election; that year it became known as "Reidsville." In 1915, the name change to "Doris" after Mrs. Leland Dorrance Hairston (1872-1952), who donated land for a new high school and cemetery there; that same year also saw the opening of what is now Community College #1 (now Morris School). In 1920–21 there were two natural disasters: a tornado that destroyed several homes near Center Street and damaging much more elsewhere within town limits including churches and schools; and record flooding caused by heavy rains during Hurricane Floyd which reached Reidsville on October 8th 1921 some time between September 11th 21st through October 10th 21st inclusive leading finally to hardwood floors being replaced with asphalt driveways all over town as damage/injury reports poured in from residents both inside & outside of their homes everywhere from 3rd Ward up into Gastonia County feeling like they had no say whatsoever about anything going on either day or night especially given past trends shown by local media throughout those dates making things feel very much one sided one should see patterns or correlations where such happenings do occur especially if looking for them however nothing could be found @ this writing so maybe someone can provide more information about that? On January 5th 1948 local newspaper columnist C T Taylor Jr published an article entitled "The beginning of something big" headlined "Reidsvilians - Start planning their future" chronicling how 2nd Ward Alderman Sam Rayburn had begun efforts to get citizens together to come up with ideas for improving life within the township & beyond some suggestions included building “a civic center” – something already being talked about & planned back then even before downtown Winston Salem opened up just downriver from us but never realized due largely because our Township Fathers believed downtown would take over most everything we ever did! That same year saw another major event taking place not too far away called "the battle of Blandy's Ford", fought between Federal Soldiers & Confederate Troops side by side along US 50 eastbound near present day Tryon St., following orders from higher ups regarding peaceful picnics taking place nearby against Federal troops (& later apologies) which led eventually to 4 dead Federals & 20 injured Confederates with many more injuries suffered long afterwards still unknown exactly how many actually died although sources claim anywhere from 25% - 75% casualties among all involved none other than General Robert E Lee himself attended events leading up to/during& aftermath+ eventual surrender at Appomattox Court House

Today, Reidsville is home to a mix of local residents and visitors who enjoy some of its unique features such as its namesake river (the Little River) which runs through town limits; its wharf where vessels can dock for supplies or passengers; and its numerous historical landmarks, including the Confederate Veteran's Home Museum and Park, as well as several churches affiliated with various denominations.
Reidsville is located in Durham County, North Carolina. The town was founded in 1736 by Hugh Reids and his family. It grew rapidly during the 18th century, and by 1851 it had a population of 2,500. The town was renamed Durham in 1868 after Durham Cathedral in London. In 1938, the townsite was annexed to Durham.
