Pinehurst is a small town in the U.S. state of North Carolina, located east of Charlotte on I-95 and west of Raleigh. The population was 5,243 at the 2010 census. Pinehurst is one of several towns in the Piedmont region that sit on high ridges overlooking downtown Charlotte and Interstate 95. The name "Pinehurst" comes from a variety of sources: one source says it is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "place where pines grow." Another source says Pinehurst was named for General James A. Pine who fought in the American Revolution and later served as Governor of North Carolina (1796-1801). In 1845, J.Q. Richardson built a sawmill here that became known as the "Richardson Mill". It still stands today and manufactures pine boards, doors, windows, siding, flooring and other items using its power to cut through hardwood trees quickly. In 1892 Orville Noyes organized what would become known as the Presbyterian Church in America here in Pinehurst (the first church south of Baltimore). The Revs., Drs., Ministers & Elders met at Mr. Richardson's mill until 1907 when they moved to their present location on Green Street which they have retained ever since! In 1906 Robert Hargrave purchased land adjacent to the mill which he developed into an all purpose agricultural center with stores, churches and residences; he also constructed a large dam across Tryon River providing irrigation for his farm operations throughout much of central NC! People living near Tryon River were so dependent upon this water supply that during heavy rains they had to go out into open country to fetch water! During World War II many local citizens worked at defense plants throughout eastern NC; however most residents returned home after hostilities ended!!! Today there are over 30 active churches serving our community with more than 350 members! It should be noted that although Pinehurst has always been an attractive place for people to live – due largely to its convenient location within easy reach of both Charlotte and Raleigh – it has not always been without controversy or problems! For example, there have been several cases where individuals have made attempts or succeeded in setting off explosives inside municipal buildings or otherwise damaging public property; fortunately these incidents have generally resulted in relatively minor physical damage rather than any loss or injury To date no person has ever died as a result of such activities!!! Today's Pinehurst offers plenty for families to enjoy: parkland bordering Tryon River provides ample space for playing sports; two schools provide opportunities for children from pre-K through 12th grade; three parks offer excellent locations for walks/playdates/picnics; DowntownCharlotte offers restaurants, shopping malls and other attractions while Interstate 95 provides access both northbound and southbound along with numerous highway rest stops offering refreshments such as ice cream cones! Although some aspects may seem unchanged since pioneer days – such as general store proprietors operating their businesses directly outside their homes – technology has definitely enhanced life here considerably!! This innovative program allows parents greater flexibility when selecting educational options for their children while also allowing educators more control over curriculum development!

Pinehurst is a small town in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States. It is located on the western edge of the Piedmont region and straddles the border of Randolph County to the east. The population was 2,841 at the 2010 census. Pinehurst was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1819. The first settler in what is now Pinehurst was James Lawrie who moved from Antrimshire, Northern Ireland in 1814. In 1830, John Brown and his men were hanged for treason near here after they attempted to cross into South Carolina without permission from their Virginia governor. The town's name comes from an old growth hardwood tree that stands today on Main Street. The pine tree was cut down by members of a local militia during a skirmish with Native Americans in 1776. A plaque marks where the tree stood and reads "This ancient forest grew wild again about 1800 when some Scotch-Irish Presbyterians set about felling this beautiful timber for building purposes." Pinehurst has been home to many famous people including Bobby Jones Sr., Joe Frazier, Babe Ruth, Darrell Kapp and more.
Pinehurst was founded in 1775 by General James Johnston. It became a part of the United States in 1821. In 1865, it was the site of a battle between Union and Confederate forces.
