It is generally believed that the first firearms were created in the state of North Carolina. In 1795, a man by the name of George Washington was granted a patent for an air rifle that he called the “Artillery Rifle.” It is interesting to note that this rifle was designed to be used with small rounds, not projectiles like today’s rifles. In 1836, General John C. Prentice issued a proclamation calling for arms manufacturing in the state of North Carolina. This proclamation allowed for private individuals to start manufacturing firearms and cartridges within the borders of North Carolina. The following year saw the incorporation of two companies - Winchester and Colt - into the United States Arsenal Company Limited. These companies were responsible for producing firearms and ammunition throughout North Carolina until 1861 when Confederate forces took over control of the state. Throughout this time period, there were many changes taking place with regards to firearm technology. One such change was the development of brass cartridges which allowed guns to fire more shots per minute than earlier types of ammunition. Brass cartridges also became less likely to jam during firing as they had greater explosive power than older types of ammunition. Additionally, new designs began being developed which incorporated iron sights onto handguns which made them easier and faster to shoot than earlier models. Through all these changes and advances in firearm technology, it is safe to say that firearms have been part of our culture and society for centuries now!

In 1923, Pinehurst experienced its first tornado when a tree fell from a tree line and struck a home near Post Road and Old Hickory Boulevard. The tornado killed four people and injured many more. During World War II, Pinehurst became one of five towns in North Carolina that were designated Army Air Forces training areas for enlisted men and women (the others being Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro/High Point, Wilmington/New Castle and Kinston). Together with Goldsboro (also an Army Air Forces training area), this made pinehurt one of the most heavily bombed areas in America during World War II. In 1959, Mayor John Fenton announced plans to build a new high school in downtown Pinehurst. At that time, no other high school existed within the city limits of Buncombe County; therefore, this decision created much opposition among residents who felt their schools would be better served by existing facilities within the city limits. Ultimately, Mayor Fenton's plan went ahead as part of a larger renovation project which also included adding new sidewalks and renovating several buildings inside downtown including City Hall and Town Hall Square. Since its establishment as a town – which took place on February 1st 1892 – Pinehurts citizens have gone through many significant changes bothsmaller scale changes as well as largerscale projects which have affected both their community directly or indirectly via their local businesses or government bodies

The area now known as Pinehurst was first purchased from Native Americans in 1792. In 1837, the town was named in honor of General John C. Fremont, who had fought against Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The growth of the railroad industry led to increased development and prosperity for Pinehurst. In 1932, Pinehurst became an incorporated municipality with a population of over 1,000 people. Today, Pinehurst is a small community located within North Carolina's Wake County region
