Mount Holly is a census-designated place in Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. Mount Holly is located on the eastern side of the Piedmont Mountains and east of Asheville. It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Mount Holly was first settled by Cherokee Indians in 1775. The town site was chosen because it had an abundance of natural resources including coal, silver, lead, and iron ore. In 1827, a group of white men led by Andrew Jackson founded what would become Mount Holly as a settler's colony. On July 10, 1840 – two years after the creation of North Carolina – Native American chief David Meade arrived at Mount Holly to meet with Jackson and offer protection against Creek Indian attacks on his people's homes in southwestern Buncombe County. In 1845–46 General prices for coal were high enough to encourage many settlers to move into western Buncombe County from eastern Cary and Johnston Counties; however most moved back east into their original counties soon afterward due to low coal prices and other factors related to Reconstruction Era economics. By 1870 about 60% of residents in Mount Holly lived within one mile (1 km) of either local mines or mills run by white capitalists or their slave labor owners who exported raw materials back East during this period known as "the Great Migration." By 1900 nearly all residents worked outside the home raising crops or industry while some 20% engaged in manufacturing such as soap making or shoeshine shops; others continued farming until repeal of prohibition made farming more profitable than smuggling alcohol across state lines through purchase agreements with bootleggers/bootlegger's agents). African Americans formed their own social clubs which met for religious services over dinner inside churches until literacy rates among black families improved significantly following US Supreme Court rulings outlawing discrimination based on race starting around 1915 when public schools became available throughout much rural areas where only slaves could read before emancipation laws allowed freedmen access education which greatly increased agricultural productivity leading eventually to elevator construction within large plantations in mountain towns during late 19th century). Coal production declined gradually beginning around 1930 as competition from new sources such as oil created greater profitability for extractive industries along with increased efficiency improvements resulting in less waste product output . , Rocketry development began during World War II when shortages arose from new technology developments allied with newly discovered uranium deposits located just southwest of Asheville near welcome county line

Mount Holly is a town in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1772 by surveyors for Colonel George Washington as a small trading post on the banks of the Yadkin River. In 1828, Mount Holly became one of five towns in McDowell County when it was divided from Rutherford County. The remaining four towns were Buncombe, Cherokee, Chowan and Hendersonville. In 1924, Mount Holly withdrew from Johnston County and became part of McDowell County again. In 1968, Mount Holly merged with neighboring Hendersonville to form what is now known as "Mount Holly-Hendersonville" borough. The merger caused some resentment among residents of Hendersonville because they felt that their town had been taken away without giving them proper acknowledgement or compensation. The economy of Mount Holly is diverse due to its location on the Yadkin River which provides access to many farming and fishing opportunities as well as manufacturing opportunities for local businesses such as textile mills and paper companies. Manufacturing jobs have declined since 2000 but have increased in recent years due to new products being developed in the region including clothing and furniture production along with medical supplies and pharmaceuticals
The town of Mount Holly, North Carolina was founded in 1795 by white settlers from Virginia. It became a part of the United States in 1821 and saw its first census in 1830. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the railroad to Mount Holly in 1845, and it obtained city status in 1851. In 1865, Mount Holly joined the newly formed Charlotte City County. The town's growth slowed following World War II and the economic recession of the early 1990s, but it has since regained some Of its former prosperity.
