Mount Holly, North Carolina is home to one of the oldest optical accessory businesses in the United States. The business started in 1892 by two prominent businessmen, James M. Caldwell and John W. Kernaghan. Caldwell had invented a new type of lens that could be attached to a telescope and used for astronomical observation. Kernaghan was a well-known photographer who developedphotographs using glass plates instead of paper leaves. He donated his equipment and portraits to Mount Holly Museum in 1916. In 1912, Augustus Fenton bought out Caldwell's share in the business and renamed it Fenton Optical Company Ltd. In 1922, he sold the company to Harry Bendixen, who renamed it Bendixen-Holland Company Incorporated (later known as H&J Beecham Corporation). In 1935, Beecham merged with American Tobacco Corporation to form American Tobacco Company (ATC) which merged with British American Tobacco Corporation (BAT) in 1986 to create British Telecommunications plc. At its peak during World War II, H&J Beecham Corporation operated over 100 optical accessory businesses across 25 countries including 46 manufacturing plants employing more than 5200 employees worldwide. The company was involved in many major technological advances such as the development of fiber optics and transistors; it also produced world’s first light bulbs and air purifiers

The store, which was founded by Dr. John Sager in 1868, offered a variety of optical equipment and services to its customers. In 1916, the store was purchased by J.P. Morgan and renamed Morgan's Optical Shop. In 1937, Morgan's Optical Shop became part of RCA Victor and continued to sell optical products until 1984 when it merged with Sears Holdings Corporation.
Mount Holly is a small town located in the heart of South Carolina. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of Buncombe County. Mount Holly was founded by English colonists in 1736 as a trading post on the Hiwassee River. The original settlers were Presbyterian missionaries who built a log cabin and named it Mount Holly after their missionary leader, Dr. James Hill (1714-1785). In 1810, under Gov. Tryon's order, all slaveowners within 10 miles of Charlotte must come over and register with him or face punishment from militia troops led by Maj. Gen. Andrew Johnson (1809-1865). The Mount Holly signboard read "Free State of North Carolina." The British burned down many plantations along the Hiwassee River during the American Revolution, but not Mount Holly because its founders had chosen to remain neutral during the war effort. They rebuilt their Cabin and renamed it for Hill in 1820 when he became pastor at Greeneville Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware after his return from Lord Howe's Expedition against Britain transporting munitions to America following independence from Great Britain (July 4, 1776). When George Washington visited Wilmington in 1789 while campaigning against colonial taxation schemes that favored wealthy planters over working people, he ordered his men to destroy all such taxes before they reached America because they represented "the avarice and self-seeking interests of those who can best afford it." In order to protect mount holly from becoming another victim of this economic policy aimed at enriching white people at the expense of working class Americans, prominent citizens purchased an additional 640 acres east of town site in 1827 which included what is now downtown Mount Holly orbit known as Highland Park Cemetery which lies on land donated by John Wesley Harding (1793-1846) one of history's most influential Baptists who served as mayor and first lieutenant governor of North Carolina from 1830-1835 and member United States Senate from 1840-48 where he helped found Baptist religious schools throughout North Carolina including Davidson College now Duke University under his leadership; Harding also founded Appalachian Bible College near Asheville in 1829 which became today’s Appalachian University which merged with UNC Asheville in 1998 among other things he also lobbied unsuccessfully for passage through Congress establishing statehood for North Carolina on July 11th 1850 days before Lincoln made his infamous “ Gettysburg Address”aka “ Emancipation Proclamation”stating that Slavery was no longeritutionalized within any part of American territory save Georgia & Louisiana therefore Negroes should be free within 24 hrspioreno matter how long it took for that result to take effect likewise slavery here could be abolished & placed into receivership until such time as new legislation could be passed enabling African Americans to hold property & vote freely assuring thembecoming fully integrated into our society just like whites become fully integrated into American society post emancipation thereby ending racialiquity forever

Mount Holly, North Carolina is a small town located in the Pisgah Mountains of central North Carolina. The town was founded in 1796 by Welsh settlers and became an important market center for the region. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1814 and again by a tornado in 1875. In 1907, Mount Holly incorporated as a city and has remained an important local community to this day. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Mount Holly occurred around 1796 when Welsh farmers established a farmstead on the hilltop known today as Mt. Holly Cemetery. By 1800, many of the original Welsh settlers had died from natural causes or were deported during Queen Anne's War that year. However, many of these early settlers did return to establish new farms throughout the area which would eventually form Mount Holly Township. In 1814, another devastating fire destroyed much of downtown Mount Holly while also causing extensive damage to several residences and businesses within the immediate vicinity including Mr. McDowell's grocery store which still stands today as one of the most significant buildings in Mount Holly history. A few years later, on October 25th, 1875, yet another powerful tornado struck northerncentral North Carolina killing at least 59 people and injuring over 500 others before finally ending about 15 miles northeast of Asheville with winds speeds up to 175 mph (300 km/h). -After being destroyed by two fires and three tornadoes -Mount HOLLY became an important trading post for central NC -During his time as Mayor - James Caldwell helped contribute to building more than $2 million worth of infrastructure including roads, schools & churches Today’s MtHolly continues to be one of America’s most vibrant communities due its close proximity to both Asheville & Raleigh – making it easy for locals& visitors alike get involved with all that this wonderful place has to offer! Mount Holly is a small town located in the eastern part of North Carolina. The population was 6,898 at the 2010 census. It is the only municipality in Forsyth County. The first settler in Mount Holly was James Witherspoon and his family from Scotland in 1792. They came to the area to prospect for coal and found some land but abandoned it due to lack of success. In 1825, General Daniel Boone arrived at Mount Holly with his forces during the American Revolution and founded a post here as part of Blue Ridge Country Commandery under Major General Nathanael Greene. Mount Holly served as a stop on the Underground Railroad for fugitive slaves, who used it as an escape route from slavery into Canada or freedom via Union lines. In 1865, Mount Holly became a city when its citizens approved incorporation by vote. In 1930, it merged with neighboring Greenville to form Greenville-Mount Holly City Council; this merger remained effective until 1985 when they were again dissolved through annexation by Greensboro (the current city). The economy of Mount Holly has been based largely on agriculture since its founding, although more recently services such as health care and retail have become dominant sectors. The downtown area still retains many historical buildings dating back to early 19th century including local grocery stores, churches, schools and businesses which continue to serve the community today
