By 1860, there were only a handful of residents remaining in Mount Holly. By 1964, only one-seventh of the population remained in Mount Holly while half of its land had been lost to development.

Mount Holly is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,501 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Alamance County. The first people to settle in what is now Mount Holly were Quakers who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1798. They built their Meeting House on what is now Elm Street and began trading with other Native American nations nearby. In 1825, General Washington and his army passed through Alamance County on their way to battle against Jackson during the Battle of Saratoga. When General Washington's troops stopped at Mount Holly for dinner, many of them stayed for the night and started a small commerce that continues today. In 1868, when Durham became the county seat, Mount Holly was included within it and its residents voted to incorporate as a town. By 1897 there were only 350 residents living in Mount Holly while 1,500 lived in Durham; both towns had lost much of their population due to industrialization which had begun coming to America during that time period. However, by 1910 there were 905 people living in Mount Holly while 1,800 lived in Durham; both towns had regained much of their population since then thanks to growth within their respective communities and increased education opportunities available across North Carolina outside of Charlotte/Durham areas). The great fire that destroyed most of downtown Durham on February 14th 1906 killed over 100 people (the majority being women and children) including many local business owners who perished trying to protect their establishments from flames that raced through downtown like infernos overnight destroying everything combustible before finally dying out hours later leaving behind an amazing mess- one can only imagine how devastating this must have been for those families trying to rebuild following such calamity- well over two decades later! The economic recession throughout much of the 2000s did some serious damage to these communities with employment levels dropping precipitously along with community services becoming almost nonexistent or hard to come by as public funding dried up leading many folks into poverty even as tree planting programs sprung up throughout neighborhoods across America designed specifically To help revive these once struggling areas) however things are slowly beginningto turnaround again thanks largely(but not completely)to increasing investment into infrastructure development within each community making downtown Asheville more vibrant than ever before! What makes mount holly so special though is not just its long history but also its citizens who continue pushing boundaries constantly seeking new ways for themselves & THEIR COMMUNITIES TO ADVANCE AS ONE! From mounting campaigns against corrupt government officials all the way up until taking back control over our municipal government after years of dysfunction - they are nothing shortof some incredibly passionate & determined individuals!!!
Mount Holly was a small town in North Carolina that was the site of one of the most significant events in its history. On December 12, 1775, a group of patriots under the leadership of General George Washington took control of Mount Holly and began to resist British forces besieging it. The battle that ensued is now known as the Battle of Mount Holly. In total, more than 60 people were killed and over 100 were wounded in what is now considered one of the largest engagements between American patriots and British forces.
