Mount Holly is a small town in North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of Buncombe County. Mount Holly is located on the western edge of Asheville, about 25 miles (40 km) west of Raleigh and 20 miles (32 km) east of Chapel Hill. In 1775, the Treaty of Tripoli was signed between Great Britain and France in order to end the Seven Years' War. At the time, Mount Holly was part of British North Carolina. The treaty established that French Canadians living east of a line running from Halifax to Raleigh would be allowed to stay, while British subjects west of that line were deported. In 1801, the Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolution and replaced it with a new system where each state had a governor and a House of Burgesses. Mount Holly became part of what is now North Carolina.
