In 1969, when Wake County created its own government and adopted a Republican political platform, Apex became one of three towns within Wake County that supported RCW 362/1989 which limited voting rights to citizens age 21 or older until they reached 21 years old for all elections other than military service or school enrollment; this change followed countywide efforts during the 1970s to limit voting rights for citizens over 21 years old throughout North Carolina due to increased influence from organized crime groups operating out of Inner City Newark, New Jersey Mount Airy has experienced growth in recent decades with new development including several large shopping malls and several apartment complexes developments as well as numerous private schools offering various degrees of education from kindergarten through college degrees The community also contains a number of businesses such as Dentist Physicians Of America (DPOA), Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC), JCPenney Co., Amazon Kindle New Store Inc., Tyson Foods Inc., KFC restaurants

Mount Airy was first settled by Scots-Irish and English colonists in the 17th century. The town was established on a small peak in what is now Yadkin County, North Carolina in 1718. The mountain was named for Archibald MacLeish, 1st Earl of Dunmore, who donated land to the town. By 1800, Mount Airy had a population of 350 people. In 1809, Confederate general Robert E. Lee fought his last battle at nearby Gettysburg and Mount Airy played an important role in that battle as well. After the Civil War ended, Mount Airy declined but regained some of its former prominence as a farming community until it became primarily a tourist destination during the 20th century.
