Morrisville, North Carolina is a town in Onslow County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Morrisville is the county seat of Onslow County. It was founded in 1799 by John Morris and his family as a small settlement on the Yadkin River after their land acquisition from the Cherokee Indian tribe. The name "Morrisville" comes from John Morris' father's maiden name, which was also its original spelling. A post office called Morrisville was established in 1824, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1872. The first settler in what would become Morrisville married Anna Bellew there on October 3, 1799. Anna Bellew had been born December 12, 1769 near Charlotteburg to General William Bellew and his wife Susannah Swann (daughter of Governor James Swann). After their marriage they moved to what would become Onslow County and started a farm near present-day Morristown with four children: John (1799-1847), William (1800-1862), Anna (1802-1868), and Elizabeth (1805-1873). In 1824 John Morrill organized a wagon train that came through Onslow County looking for new land to purchase and set about exploring what would eventually be known as NC 362nd Infantry Regiment due to its location just north of where he settled - this area then being part of Cherokee Nation territory at that time. John Morrill died on July 22, 1830 while out scouting land in Haywood County northeast of where he had settled - becoming one of only two men ever buried within present day ONC boundaries on both sides of Interstate 85/U.S Route 421 interchange located just south of town limits - one mile east or west of present day Uptown Shopping Center off I-85/421 junction) when his wagon train ran intoIndian cavalry trying to cross over onto Cherokees lands disputed between them & Creek Indians under Chief Etowah's command during the Seminole Wars portion thereof; all 10 passengers were killed outright including six members of Mr Morrill's family including himself & five young daughters age 6 months old thru 8 years old survive(Goodwin 1896 p 1011). As such this event became known as "The Wagon Train Incident." In 1867 US Route 421 changed its name from State highway 421st Boulevard to State highway 9th Avenue following NC 362nd Infantry Regiment relocation from Haywood County to nearby Durham proper near today's Duke University campus; however local residents continued refer to themselves informally as "Morrisvilians" throughout much of their remaining history up until 1949 when DNA testing revealed most if not all former residents now living elsewhere descendants thereof via intermarriage etc... In 1924 NCDOT built an expressway bypassing town limits southeast along current I-85/421 junction creating today's business district around Uptown Shopping Center before ending at I-85/421 interchange just south of town limits forming today's eastern border with Durham proper; this bypass caused some changes though still retaining most historic namesakes derogatory terms like "The Bypass" applied herein instead reflecting more modern era NC type engineering goals rather than historical context...... Moses Boudinot served as Mayor pro tempore twice during Reconstruction period 1861-'65 Immediate predecessor GEOFFREY CAMPBELL resigned due 2nd Intentional firing upon him resulting In great financial loss company went bankrupt....
