Morrisville was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1837. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Pedder River, and it became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. Morrisville was also a center of cotton trade, and many slaves were transported through the town to freedom. The town was destroyed in a fire in 1938, but it quickly rebuilt. Morrisville is now a small community with active businesses and a growing population.
