Morrisville is located in the mountains east of Asheville and west of charlotte. The first settler in Morrisville was John Stephenson who arrived in 1798. The town was named for General James Ewing, 3rd US Army officer killed at Gettysburg during the American Civil War. In 1812, Colonel Benjamin Vaughn founded a school which became known as Vaughn's Academy and later moved to nearby Lenoir City before returning to Morristown in 1836. In 1885, Alexander Graham Bell came to Morrisville with his wife Maud and their three children after moving from Scotland. They started a telephone business here and made many contributions to technology including building the first phone booth in America and patents for both wired and wireless communication systems. Bell Lodge survives today as one of the few remaining examples of early technological pioneer life in Morrisville. In 1916, General Pte John Lattimore died while serving with World War I’s Fourteenth Infantry Regiment at Belleau Wood near Arras on 1 April 1916; he had been seriously injured earlier that year when his unit captured an enemy trench hidden undergrowth on July 15th near Ypres (now Mons). On 24 May 1916, General Order No 2 following recommendations from Board Of Inquiry convened by Commandant-in-Chief Commissioned Officers And Soldiers’ Homes Second Battalion (Royal Irish Fusiliers) ordered all military personnel subject to general hospital duty or service on or about 1 April 1916 “to leave their hospitals immediately for sites selected by themselves for confinement until further order”; this order applied also to members of Volunteer Force Units already serving within our shores – those who had not enlisted but were now over 21 years old being excepted only where medically unfit (of course no women were included). At least Armistice Day saw the closure of more than 400 hospitals throughout England and Wales due mainly to weather conditions; however there were still 479 military hospitals open on 11 November 1918 when hostilities ended even though it has been said that “not one soldier died as a direct result of influenza pandemic1918″ although some did succumb from other causes such as pneumonia brought home aboard ships after leaving port…….. Anecdotal evidence would suggest that numbers killed by influenza actually decreased significantly during 1918 compared with previous pandemics However this remains largely unpublished data so definitive proof will never be forthcoming…. variances across areas may be due either to differencesifling factors such as access to available medical treatment or Mortality rates reflecting battlefield casualties rather than simply cases caused by Influenzaalthough undeniably influenzal

The town was named for George Washington Morris, an early settler who resided nearby and donated land to the townspeople. In 1830, Alexander Morris purchased 1,500 acres of land near what is now downtown Morrisville for $1 per acre. He used this land to build a farm which he called “The Farm”. The business served as both a home and office for him and his wife Rachel. From here, they ran the farm until their death in 1934 when it passed down to their children and grandchildren who continued to operate it until 1997 when it was sold to Raleigh-based Trinity Industries Incorporated (TRIN). In 1951, Morristown became part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District when it was created following consolidation of several school districts across Charlotte County into one entity under the leadership of Driscoll Cary Lowey Jr.). At that time, Morristown had population of around 2200 students with over 100 businesses providing services such as transportation/industry/, retail/laboratories/, restaurants/. A new high school was built onsite which opened in 1957; since then Morristown has undergone multiple expansions including another high school (2009), addition of daycare facilities (2009),and renovation & expansion (2012). Morrisville was founded in 1792 as a small community on the south side of James River. The town grew rapidly, and by 1810 it had a population of 2,000. Morrisville became an important transportation center for the area, thanks to its location at the intersection of two major roads. In 1838, Morrisville was chartered as an incorporated town. By 1860, the population had increased to 5,000 and Morrisville became known for its large cotton plantations. The town fell into decline after World War II, but has since regained some of its former prominence as a commercial and cultural center.
