Morrisville is a small town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 597 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Winston-Salem–High Point, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. Morrisville is located on U.S. Route 421, approximately 15 miles (24 km) east of Winston-Salem and 25 miles (40 km) north of High Point. The community was founded in 1892 by John Witherspoon and his wife Martha Ann Hargrave as a trading post on the then new Blue Ridge Railroad between Union City and Burlington, North Carolina. After Witherspoon's death in 1893, his widow continued to run the post until her death in 1906; John Witherspoon Jr., her son and successor sold the post to George Crouch in 1912. In 1924, Crouch donated land for a public school which became known as Morrisville School District No 2 after him. The school district merged with Randolph County Schools in 1957 to become Wake County Public Schools; Morrisville School District No 1 absorbed into Wake County schools that same year. In 1958, following passage of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 Amendments by Congress,[1] Morrissville began receiving federal funding for prekindergarten through eighth grade education under the auspices of Wake County District One PreK-12 program[2]. This grant system continues to this day.[3] As early as 1970,[4] Morrisville had embarked on an ambitious project to renovate its Main Street thoroughfare from two lanes wide to four lanes wide within ten years; today Main Street remains one-way with no turnouts available other than at major intersections controlled by traffic lights or access roads connecting neighboring communities such as High Point and Winston-Salem.[5] The economy of Morrisville has changed significantly over time: primary industries have included agriculture since its founding; however, those businesses have become more diversified over time due to advances in technology and international trade opportunities; additionally, tourism now plays a significant role in the local economy both during summertime when people come for vacationers attractions such as beaches/courses/libraries but also during wintertime when residents commute into larger cities for jobs outside their home towns because there are no commercial areas close by that can provide comparable living wages without city residency restrictions[6]. There are currently several active businesses operating withinMorrisville including: KFC fast food restaurant [7], JCPenney Department store [8], ExxonMobil Refinery - formerly known as Old Dominion Pipeline - production line[9][10], Home Depot department store [11][12], US Cellular tower - formerly American Wireless Tower - telecommunications building[13][14][15]), Barnes & Noble bookstore [16][17], Dollar General store [18], Whole Foods Market grocery store [19][20],[21],[22]), Amoco refinery - former Marathon Oil refining complex - petroleum products manufacturing buildings[23],[24]).

Morrisville is a small town in Union County, North Carolina, located about 12 miles (19 km) west of the center of Raleigh. Morrisville was founded in 1815 by General David Catawba and his family. In 1865, Morrisville became the capital of Union County. The population was 5,893 at the 2000 census. The history of Morrisville stretches back to 1815 when General David Catawba moved his family from Georgia to what is now Union County, North Carolina. When he first arrived in this area he named it “Catawba” after himself and some other friends who had accompanied him on his journey westward. In 1865, when Confederate General Pendergast took over command of the Confederacy in Virginia, he ordered all Unionists within ten miles (16 km) of Richmond to leave their homes and move to Raleigh or along the banks of the Yadkin River. Many people in Morrisville chose to stay and fight for their country rather than leave their homes behind. After several months of hard fighting they finally defeated Confederate forces under General Johnston at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865. After the war ended many people decided that it would be best if they returned home and live closer to family and friends rather than go through all the trouble of moving again. So in 1870-71 a group of settlers led by Captain John Hays came forward and purchased 3 square miles (10 km2) northeast of present day Morrisville from Sir Walter Raleigh for $1 per acre ($25 per hectare). The land was rich with coal seams which made it an ideal place to settle down and grow crops. Over time more families moved into this area making Morrissville one of America's most populous towns during its early days as a post-war settlement). On July 1st 1875 my great grandfather James Fenton bought 4 acres (1/2 hectare) northwest corner lot #8 from Captain John Hays for $10 per acre ($200 per hectare). This lot contained partof present day downtown Morrisville which today forms partofthe city limitsof Raleigh! My father James Fenton began building his house on this lot on October 10th 1925! It still stands today! Just across State Highway 56 from downtown is another old Fenton house that also served as our kitchen until 1957! Thanks dad for setting up our kitchen here! From 1880 until 1915 there were 2 schools open in Morrisville: One run by Mrs Phelps School Board & One run by Mr Gorman School Board . Today only 1 school remains open: The Community College Of Central NC located just east side US Highway 401 just south side Rte 56
Morrisville was founded in 1788 by Colonel John Morris and his wife, Martha. The town was named after General George Washington. The first store opened in 1824 and the first post office in 1829. The population of Morrisville grew to over 1,000 in 1870. In 1893, the Morrisville School District was formed and the town became a part of the district. In 1957, the district disbanded and all of its schools were merged into Johnston County Schools. The town's only remaining business is the Morrisville Store which closed in 2002.
