In 1911, Morrisville became an incorporated municipality with a population of 4,800 people. At that time it included parts of what are now Gaston and Union Counties as well as parts of Cherokee and Polk Counties. In 1933, annexation of much of eastern Union County completed by concurrent Act No., 99-4 (the "Anson County Annexation Act"), made Morrisville an incorporated city with a population over 5,000 people again including all those now within Cherokee and Polk Counties as well as part of Gaston County proper which then comprised only Anson County proper The post office at Morrisville served for more than 90 years until it closed on July 1st, 2006 due to changes in USPS procedure related to consolidating postal services into smaller offices around the country. The last mail delivery took place through the old post office building on Spring streets just north of I-275 between Reagan Boulevard and Interstate 95 outside Carthage Morrisville has been home to many businesses over its history including: Burger King (now fast food chain Wendy's), Lowe's Home Hardware, Lenox Furniture Company (now Lululemon Athletica), Post Office Boxes Inc., Live Oak Coffee & Tea Company (now Starbucks) and several restaurants such as White Castle BBQ & Hardee's
