Morrisville is a small town in the state of North Carolina, located in Rutherford County. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. Morrisville is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. It is a rural community with a median household income of $58,541. The first settlers to the area that would become Morrisville were farmers and their families who arrived in 1795 from England. By 1810, all but one family had left for fear of malaria outbreaks which killed many in this early settlement. A post office was established here on October 14, 1811, by Joshua Hinkle with the name "Moses." For much of its history Morrisville functioned as an agricultural center supplying goods to surrounding farms and towns. On October 12, 1865, the General Assembly passed An Act creating Rutherford County and providing for its organization; within two years Morrisville had changed hands four times (three times to African American citizens) due to political subdivisions being created therein including east-west Pendergast Township (now known as Durham), north-south Union Township (now known as Chapel Hill), and southwest Rutland Township (now known as Rocky Mount). In 1927 Morrisville experienced its first tornado when a severe storm struck during Hurricane Agnes; over 100 homes were damaged or destroyed with at least five fatalities reported. This tornadic event helped spur development around town into businesses such as banks, grocery stores and schools while also helping create some semblance of order after months of chaos caused by powerful wind gusts. In 1990 Morrissvillians voted 3-1 in favor of annexing nearby Payntertown after decades efforts spearheaded by Mayor Dick Scherery among others culminating in what would become Payneburg’s incorporation into Morrisvilliamania on February 9th that same year – becoming one entity with both local government services and business districts separate from those provided by neighboring villages/townships/cities through annexation statutes passage since then! Morrisville is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Morrisville was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1795 and named for General James Morrell who fought in the American Revolution. The first Presbyterian church in Morrisville was built in 1811. In 1837, Morrisville became the first town to be chartered as a county seat of Gaston County. The courthouse located on Main Street served as the seat until 1889 when it moved to nearby Garner. In 1865, Morrisville voted to secede from Gaston County and become an independent county under its own government with its own court system and currency. In 1892, local developer John Witherspoon purchased land east of downtown for what would become what is now known as North Carolina State University (NCSU). NCSU's main campus opened in 1903 and today employs over 3800 students from all fifty U.S. states and more than twenty countries across six continents! Today, Morrisville celebrates its rich history with annual festivals that include the Morrell Festival of Country Fair Music & Arts on Saturday nights; the Fayetteville Folk Festivals every other year; and Reba McEntire's Honda Civic Classic Car Rally which takes place on Memorial Day weekend each year Speedway Park off US Highway 421 near downtown features a variety of car shows throughout the day while also hosting several concerts throughout summer months
