The first rifles to be fielded with Morganton rifle scopes were large-scale artillery pieces used by Confederate forces during the American Civil War. These scopes allowed commanders and soldiers to better see their target, which made battlefield engagements more successful.
Morganton is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,631 at the 2010 census. Morganton is the only incorporated municipality in Alamance County and it is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first thing that one would notice about Morganton is its beautiful setting on the banks of the lovely Catawba River. It's also home to some of North Carolina's oldest businesses such as Southeastern Railroad and Merchants Bank and Trust Company which date back to 1861. The Morganton community started around 1853 when two men by the name of Hargrave and Wilson purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land south of what is now Morganton from James Witherspoon for $8 per acre. This location was perfect for growing corn, potatoes, apples, field peas, cotton and other crops because it had a good water supply and plenty of woodlands for fires during wintertime. Morganton has been inhabited since before European colonists arrived in what is now Alamance County in 1778. In 1792 Nathaniel Bacon sold 2 square miles (5 km2) of present-day Morganton to John Ashe for $10 per acre – this site became known as "Bacon Hill." Ashe named his new settlement after himself, meaning "the Meadows." By 1800 there were over 100 people living in Bacon Hill with a schoolhouse, storeroom and several homes built along with an arsenal/firearm factory called The Armory Workshops which manufactured rifles and pistols for use by militia forces throughout North Carolina. There was also a blacksmith shop located near downtown where heavy artillery including cannons were made from high-quality steel plates cast into resin using a process called "billet casting". In 1809 Nathaniel Bacon donated land to form today's downtown Morgantown which included the current courthouse building on Market Street between Highways 85A/85Bandaños Drive and Court Avenue). A fire destroyed most of Bacon Hill in 1813 but due to donations from many residents including prominent farmer John Fenton who donated lot 27 on Current Street – east side facing Meeting Street – Bacon Hill was rebuilt within 5 years with additional housing being erected on lots 11 through 15 which still stand today exteriorly unchanged despite numerousandals throughout the years! For many years following bacon’s donation all streets leading out from downtown were named Park Boulevard except Meeting Street which became State Road 695 until 2005 when it was renamed Dutch Elm Boulevard in honor of Mayor Bob Dooley who spearheaded plans to renamesttownsquare street after Drayton McLendon wife Eleanor). When Englishman Colonel Richard Ralston moved his family from Transylvania (now Ukraine) colony near Wilkesboro to Alamance County in 1794 he brought his Indian wife Pocahontas with him as well as slaves Eliza Jane Bean who bore him four children: William; Randolph; Stephen; James McDowell Sr.; planter John Fenton donating 4 lots extending 3 rods wide at right angles cornering Highways 86 & 87 just inside town limits line then northerly cornering Old Courthouse Square thence easterly 1 rod towards Creek River then westerly 1 rod towards New Courthouse Square - these latter lots being bounded by First St., Second St., Third Ave., Brentwood Ave., Chapel Rd., Old Courthouse sq., SW cornered by Post Office building rear property line then NW cornered by boundaries established Feb 13 1830 - these boundaries being along lines drawn by surveyor Major George Deeds while prospecting near present day intersection Of Highways 85A/85Bandañans Dr & Court Ave #1 N
Scope manufacturing in the early 20th century was a difficult task. The rifle Scope industry developed because of the need to sight firearms in close quarters and in various hunting scenarios. rifles were originally designed with a magnification of only 1x, which made them unsuitable for hunting large game. To accommodate for this limitation, scope manufacturers began producing enlargements of existing lenses that increased the magnification to 3x or 4x. Although these enlargements did not improve the accuracy of shooting at long distances, they did make it possible for shooters to hit larger game with greater precision. Furthermore, by increasing the magnification,scope manufacturers were able to create longer-range Rifle scopes that could be used for target practice or varmint hunting. These later Rifle scopes became known as “tourmaline” scopes because their optics are highly polished and produce a very clear image on Target rounds. The first Rifle scopes were created in 1885 by George Morse and Alfred North Whitehead using lenses that had been specifically designed for this purpose (See Figure 1). In 1889, John Browning initiated development of a sniper rifle utilizing an improved design of lens called the Browning rifled Rifle Scope (SeeFigure 2). This new rifle scope offered enhanced accuracy over earlier models due to its ability to focus on small targets at great distances while still presenting an accurate image on Target rounds. By 1895, Zeiss had produced a quality Sniper Rifle scope called the TaschenrifleScope (SeeFigure 3), which allowed shooters to see targets up close without havingTo wear glasses or use other sighting equipment

Morganton is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Morganton is located on the east side of the Cumberland Mountains and is bordered by Gastonia to the south, Henderson to the west, and Uniontown to the north. Morganton was founded in 1799 by Colonel John Morgan as a post office on what is now known as State Road 421. In 1805 it became a town and remained so until 1920 when it became an incorporated village under statehood. As an incorporated village, Morganton had no power to tax itself but did have some local government functions such as firefighting and street maintenance. In 1868 Morganton was charged with manufacturing Confederate General Robert Ewell's standard blueprints which were being used to produce uniforms for southern forces during the American Civil War. After failed attempts by other towns in Gaston County to take advantage of this opportunity, Morganton finally took action when its citizens met at their schoolhouse on October 24th in order to demand that their municipality be given authority over production within its borders since there seemed little chance that they would be successful anyway. With little response from other municipalities in Gaston County, including those located much further west or east of Morganton, on November 3rd Mayor Hiram Witherspoon convened a meeting at his home in order to discuss options with respect to taking legal action against Morgaton should it choose not participate in production efforts for rebel troops while still under state law; however nothing came of this meeting either way and no formal charges were filed against Morganton after all.(Faulkner) The success of this effort helped spur other municipalities across Gaston County into taking similar actions; eventually leading to bastardization of county-wide produciton levels which resulted in high prices for goods sourced from out-of-county sources.(Becker) This situation eventually led Governor Trygve Lie (1871-1927) – himself who had come up with the idea behind statehood for NC –to pass legislation establishing two new counties: Cumberland and Wakefield which merged without any input from Morgantoans(Watson).
