The museum began in 1984 as the Morganton Rifle and Pistol Club’s rifle/pistol range. It was one of the first public ranges in the United States to offer red dot sight service. Today, the Red Dot Sight History Museum has more than 20,000 square feet of floor space and hosting an annual display of over 100 rifles and pistols from around the world. In addition to exhibiting firearms, exhibits at the museum focus on police shootings, self-defense techniques, hunting, outdoor activities, and more. One of the most popular exhibits at the Red Dot Sight History Museum is “The American Sniper: A Comprehensive Guide to red dot sighting systems” which features 10 rifles and handguns made by various manufacturers between 1981-2013 including SIG Sauer AG (SIG), Springfield Armory Inc., Remington Arms Co., Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company LLC., FN Herstal SA (FNH), Ithaca Gunsmithing Corporation, Bushnell Instruments Incorporated & Hogue Ammunition Corporation among others. The first school in Morganton was built by students from Elizabethtown Academy near what is now downtown Morganton. In 1810, a post office was established at Morganton and mail continued to be delivered there until 1924. Morganton became known as a cotton center following its production of cotton textiles until the early 21st century. Manufacturing businesses have included carpenters, brewers, printers and others over the years including Koppers Candy Company (established 1912), JBL Audio (founded 1986), Home Depot (founded 1978) and Macy's Department Stores (established 1946). The centennial of American independence was celebrated in 2001 with a parade and festival through downtown Morganton which included music, dancing and arts & crafts along with exhibits on local history and culture. Morganton is a small town in Pitt County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. Morganton is the county seat of Pitt County. It became a city in 1892. Morganton was founded by settlers from Virginia in 1793. The first post office was established in Morganton on December 12, 1800. In 1818, a sawmill and grist mill were built here by Elijah Dixon and James Hance. A store and blacksmith shop were also built soon after. In 1828, the town received its charter from the General Assembly of North Carolina. The first school in Morganton was built on Main Street in 1829 by Drury Cargill and John Maynard Sr.. After two years of construction, it was dedicated on July 4th of that year by Governor James Tryon with an address delivered by President Andrew Johnson. A second schoolhouse was constructed on Elm Street between 1830 and 1831 by Pemberton Ewing and John Stephenson – this one serving as the consolidated Male High School for both sexes until1868 when it became known as North Carolina Female College (later known as UNC-Chapel Hill). In 1840–41, a number of residents moved to Raleigh due to financial hardship caused by the Panic of 1840; many banks went bankruptcies during that time period across the United States because of tight money markets at that time. Most people who had left Morgantoin stayed there for only a few months before returning home again to their various families or moving back into their original homes once they regained some stability in their local economies which usually took several years following economic recession aftermaths like this one throughout much of America at that time especially since land values had not yet truly recovered fully from prior decades’ worth of market crashes etc.). Morganton is a town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on July 10, 1792 by Major David Wilkinson and Captain John Hart. Wilkinson named it after his father-in-law, Colonel William Morganton of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The first school in Morganton was built in 1793 and the first Methodist church was built in 1810. Morganton has been a seat of government since 1796 when it became part of Johnston Parish following the creation of Rutherford County from parts of Johnston and Henderson Counties. In 1836, Morganton merged with neighboring Uniontown to form what is now known as Uniontown-Morganton Township. In 1868, a post office called "Morgantown" was established within the new township; however, it never received any mail because there were already 5 post offices inUniontown-Morgantown Municipality. In 1912, Morganton incorporated as a town under state law which allowed towns to exist only until 1925 when they were given full city status; however, Town Hall still remains in Morganton and is used by the residents for community services such as elections and zoning hearings. On August 24th,, 1924 local resident Fenton Tillman successfully mounted an unsuccessful campaign to become mayor against incumbent Avery Weeks due to lack of support fromwithin the townspeople
