In addition two small buildings adjacent to current day Main Street Fire Station #1 were also destroyed during February 1938 tornadoes which caused significant destruction within town limits including several businesses along Kernstown Road between Highpoint Rd & School Dr Additionally damage occurred within existing churches - Bethlehem Chapel being completely destroyed (& All records lost) while Morgon Elementary School suffered extensive roofing damage resulting in loss OfChurch services & sanctuary!! l As cities grew larger throughout American society more and more functions were moved away FROM THE CITY GOVERNMENT TO THE COUNTY CENTER WITHIN THE COMMUNITY WHERE PEOPLE DID THEIR BUSINESSES AND THOSE IN CHARGE OF THE CITIZENS ACTIVITIES LIFED AND WORKed FROM HOME!!! This trend continued well into the 1960s with county governments becoming increasingly bloated with special interests while little public scrutiny took place leading eventuallyTo increased financial problems& dissolutions!!! Although some aspectsof this processWERE DESTROYED& MISSILES TORNADOED AGAINST LOCALITIES INCLUDING MORGANTON!!!! However overall thru all these changesmorganton endured!!!!!!!!
