In 1960, Mooresville merged with nearby Cary to form the new metropolitan area known today as Charlotte-Mecklenburg County. Today, Mooresville has a variety of businesses including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo), health care (Cary-based Adventist Health Partners Inc.), retail (Jared's Joes Store and Pretzel Place), restaurants (Pretzel Place Cafe and Dutch Bros.), science fiction/fantasy/Tolkien activities (The Tolkien Museum), information technology companies (Apple Computer Inc., Google Inc.), real estate services (Maxwell Realty Advisors LLC) and two medical centers - UNC Medical Center in Durham and Baptist Health Southwind Hospital - both located within one mile of each other on University Boulevard just east of Interstate 95).
