In 1839, he died and bequeathed his entire estate to Dubose College. In 1840, John Aiken founded Aiken Academy near where present-day Mooresville sits. That same year saw the start of settler life around what is now Moorestown when Andrew McMillan bought 640 acres from Walter Pritchett for $800 dollars (). McMillan used it for agricultural purposes until 1861 when he sold it to General Nathaniel Banks (). In 1865, NC Railroad Company constructed a line between Charlotte and Greensboro which passed throughMoore's Valley just east of today's MOORESVILLE elementary school site (then known as “Mount Carmel Road”). This left MOORESVILLE with its own railroad station only four miles away! Mooresville is a town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,362 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in the area was James Moore on July 12, 1805. In 1825, John Harbison arrived and erected a log cabin on what is now known as Moore's Point. On December 8 of that year, three men from Georgia came to the area and established a trading post near present-day Mooresville. A post office was established in 1827 and remained open until 1951. In 1829, James Waddell platted land in what is now Mooresville and named it after his father-in-law William Johnston. In 1830-31, Jethro Caldwell platted land aroundMoore's Point and name it Caldwell Landing after his brother Caldwell who had come overland from Tennessee two years earlier with provisions for developing this new region. By 1830s most of Randolph County had been developed with small farms scattered among woods and hillsides; few people lived within five miles of any other house or storehouse save for those living along the riverbanks where fishing or hunting allowed access to good lands for agriculture but no reliable transportation occurred beyond these limits without long journey by boat or horseback through dangerous rapids. In 1832 James Broughton purchased some of Jethro Caldwell's land which he used as part of a boundary line boundary dispute between Randolph County proper and Davidson County caused by Campbell family feuding over control of an estate belonging to parents burned down by their son while they were away on vacation north in Tennessee; this event helped spur development eastward into Davidson County reaching today's Gastonia (now Winston-Salem). The first school in Mooresville opened its doors on October 5th, 1840 according to local history book "Mooresville - A History" written by Mrs Noel Haney in 1961 when there were only 4 students attending schools within one mile of moorestowneage starting out at $3 per week each with board and tuition paid for teacher instruction available at home also doing farm work during winter months also making firewood & selling eggs etc...It should be noted that many young women did not have access to education until later due to lack of funds especially during difficult times such as the Civil War when families could not afford even food enough for themselves let alone sending children off to school . After several moves throughout the years including one from inside an old barn onto modern ground later abandoned due to water damage another move took place when mother found shelter & room under tree near creek during severe weather storm early morning September 6th 1861 her grandson Lorenzo went outside got stuck inside treerain started coming out head high clouds started forming so heavy she calledhusband&heartedly ran inside&got son out before anyone knewwhatwas happening&the rest is history macdonald house still stands today next door
In 1755, the Mooresville Plantation was founded by Colonel Richard Moores. He and his family were early settlers in this area. The plantation grew rapidly and eventually had over 100 slaves. In 1831, Colonel Moores sold the plantation to Joshua Ladd for $10,000. Joshua Ladd was a prominent member of Raleigh's business community and became one of the largest landowners in North Carolina. He also helped expand the railroad system in the state.
