Mint Hill is a small town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 2,170 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham–Nashville metropolitan area. The Mint Hill ZIP code includes most of the town and its satellite communities of Hickory Grove andRocky Mount. Mint Hill was first settled in 1772 by Scottish settlers who named it Scotsboro after their favourite place on the Isle of Skye. In 1814, Captain John Smith discovered what became known as "Mint Hill" while exploring a section of the Yadkin River that lay between Rocky Mount and Hickory Grove. The name stuck, and when a post office was established at Scotsboro in 1835, it picked up an additional letter from "h". The community began to grow rapidly due to its location near two major railroads: the Wilmington and Raleigh Railroad (W&R) which ran through nearby Durham and Apex; and the Charlotte & Raleigh Railway (CRR), which connected Raleigh with Charlotte downriver. By 1870, Mint Hill had a population of 462 residents. By 1920, that number had grown to 1,516 residents; by 1930 it was 2,055 residents; and by 1940 it had reached 3,049 residents. In 1965-1966 – during presidencies Lyndon Johnson (D-TX) and Richard Nixon (D-CA – both Republicans) – Mint Hill experienced one of the worst times for crime in North Carolina history due to high levels of drug smuggling emanating from southern Mexico into Northeastern North Carolina via UNC's Fayetteville campus where students were involved in drug dealing on or aroundcampus premises Consequently much effort went into increasing law enforcement resources including hiring more officers than ever before while also investing tax dollars into public education campaigns designed to reduce drug use inside UNC campuses . These efforts paid off ascrime rates fell rapidly over time until they stabilized again under Republican Governor Pat McCrory beginning in 2002 Contrary to popular belief however recent studies have revealed increased incidencesof violent crimes such as aggravated assault particularly around UNC's Arden Hills campus where recent construction has concentrated large numbers of transient low income individuals One study found that althoughincidences have decreased overall since then there has been an increasein robberies targeting schools within walking distance of Arden Hills Campus making this an attractive target for criminals looking for easy money While no one wants crime rates going up we must remember that if we want our community to remain safe we needto do everything possible not just focus on reducing crime rates

Mint Hill is a small town located in Alamance County, North Carolina. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Mint Hill is home to the historic Mint Hill Baptist Church and the first post office in Alamance County. The community began as a Presbyterian settlement in 1786 and was named for Mount Washington, which was nearby. Mint Hill became an African-American civil rights center during the 1960s and 1970s. In 2001, it became part of the Durham metropolitan area. The early settlers of Mint Hill were Presbyterians who came from Scotland in search of a new land to settle after repeated failure in England to find virgin soil suitable for farming. They built their house on a hill overlooking present-day downtown Mint Hill around 1786. One account suggests that when they first arrived, they found no land available on which to build their house because there had been previous settlements here since before English colonists had settled hereabouts in what is now Alamance County (then called Robeson County). However, one of the early Scotsmen who moved into this region may have been John McDonald (1724–1800), an indentured servant born near Edinburgh who worked for his master on a plantation near Wilmington, Delaware until he escaped by running away and reaching Philadelphia with news of British policies regarding slavery then being developed there. McDonald later returned to America and began purchasing land west of Raleigh where he erected some grants totaling over 6 miles² extending from what is now Tryon Street eastward along Pembroke Road northward about two miles² including present day Pinehurst Avenue westward (). This grant included what is today Anson Avenue between Pembroke Road and [now] Springdale Boulevard (). It was not long before other Scottish settlers followed McDonald's lead and founded similar grants elsewhere around Alamance County including Cherry Valley (), Rocky Mount (), Gastonia ()], Goldthwaite (), Fayetteville ()], New Bern ()], Lexington ())]]. Eventually all these areas reached populations numbering several hundred people with some holding grants exceeding 10 acres² . beginnings can be traced back even further to December 1657 when James McGill - son of Pierre Moncton (1619–1689), governor general of Canada - set out from Halifax Nova Scotia with six young men under his command "to plant themselves upon this good tract of ground lying between us Botany Bayou & Catawba River" . Upon arrival at Roanoke Island , they discovered "a very good piece of Land laye open unto them" . Others soon followed suit finding virgin soils throughout western Alamance Counties although development took many years due primarily to lack transportation infrastructure as well as resistance among local landowners To make way for plantations growing cotton, rice or tobacco required large tracts Of forested land that wereLogged off by owners allowing only hunting or grazing purposes; few families possessed enough acreage or wealth to do so mint hilly
