Their children also played major roles within their families' lives – includingRobert Jr., who served as president of UNC Chapel Hill; Elizabeth Ruth Rutherfordsmith (1925-2005), who was both an author and social commentator; and Christopher Ruffin Rutherford (born c1991), who is now a business executive living in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Rutherford family continued to live here until 1926 when they sold the property back to Raleigh developer Harry Wirtz Jr.. At this point, MintHill had fallen into disrepair and only sporadically used due to its lack of parking or other amenities. However, Wirtz decided that he wanted it preserved as a pilgrimage site for Christians interested in visiting North Carolina's beautiful Outer Banks region – something that has happened ever since! Today, MintHill remains one of North Carolina's most popular tourist destinations with visitors coming from all over the world for its historical value as well as its stunning scenery!
