Mint Hill is a small town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. Mint Hill is located on U.S. Route 17 between Chapel Hill and Durham and it has a ZIP code of 27515. Mint Hill was founded in 1811 by three Scotsmen, Alexander MacFarlane, Allan Cameron and Patrick Campbell as a farming community on the edge of what is now Alamance County. The men named their settlement after Mount Royal in Scotland because they thought that this mountain looked like an excellent site for a trading post. In 1814, Captain John Smith discovered new land to the south of Mint Hill and his party razed all the houses and gardens in order to improve grazing lands for cattle. In 1828 Colonel James Moore moved his family from Rocky Mount to Mint Hill where he started a grocery store which remains one of the most important businesses in town today. Moore also built two churches – First Presbyterian (1828) and Second Presbyterian (1830). After Moore's death in 1831, his widow sold both churches to Rev Edward Bogue who renamed them Mt Pleasant Episcopal Church (now Chatham Methodist Church) and First Baptist Church respectively before selling them back to Moore's widow again in 1865. The first school opened in 1830 when Rev Edward Bogue donated land east of present day Main Street for a schoolhouse; it was replaced by a larger building which still stands today on Elm Street close to Oleander Park mall across from Asda supermarket — this building served as both schoolhouse and post office until 1998 when it burned down due to water damage with no insurance cover available! Mint Hill is located in the heart of North Carolina, just east of Raleigh. The town was founded by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1585 as a trading post on the Botha River. At its peak, Mint Hill had a population of around 25,000. After Raleigh's death in 1618, his land and possessions were divided among his followers, and Mint Hill passed to one of these claimants. From this point forward, Mint Hill served as a garrison town for much of the southern Outer Banks region. In 1812, during the War for Independence, Battle Ridge was fought at Mint Hill between Union forces and Confederate forces. Despite being outnumbered three to one by their opponents, Confederate troops managed to repel an attempted cavalry charge and drive off the Union attackers. In 1865, after the end of the Civil War, Mint Hill reverted back to its original name - until it was renamed again in 1978 in honor of Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1914). During his life he enjoyed widespread support among both Democrats and Republicans - which may have been why he was chosen to become America's first Presidential General ElectionCommissioner following Reconstruction efforts preceding that time period (the office had been abolished by Lincoln). After serving in that position for two terms (1869-71), Grant died suddenly at age 61 from what is now known as renal failure; however, he had already accomplished many important goals during his presidency including passage of legislation establishing postal service throughout the United States (which would later be made permanent under Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D. Roosevelt), establishment of Fort Sumter as South Carolina's First Point Of Entry into New York City (an event which helped spur increased trade between those two states), helping give voice to African Americans through his use of Executive Order 9981; and creating new national monuments like Mount Rushmore National Monument despite strong opposition from some within Congress who saw him as doing too much outside Washington’s purview given that all national monuments were ultimately created via Congressional legislation or with Presidential Executive Order instead thereof – something President Harry Truman eventually did away with altogether upon taking office in January 1969 having come to believe that Executive orders should only be used when there are overriding federal interests at stake rather than individual ones like Mt Rushmore or other National Monuments because they often serve more purely commercial purposes than historical ones…. The town has since seen significant changes over time due primarily to Interstate 35 traffic – most notably its current incarnation as an upscale shopping destination for locals and visitors alike – but it remains home base for many North Carolina Native American tribes who gather annually around Mount Mitchell National Park nearby for rituals such as powwows…..Mint Hill is also known for its annual Bluegrass Music Festival which takes place near downtown every April….Today there are few businesses left standing from when mint hill was all about Trading Posting & Gambling then became Shopping Destination For NC natives then Tourist spot Now Home To Many Tribes
