Consequently, many of the businesses in Mint Hill were gunsmiths and firearmsmiths. Some of these businesses had their origins from early Powder River Arsenal Firearms Plant located in nearby Wheeling. Ammunition production at the plant began during the 18th century, and continued until World War I. The arsenal was destroyed during the war but its impact on firearm manufacture can still be seen today. A number of other businesses also popped up around Mint Hill as gunsmithing became more popular due to increased demand for firearms throughout America. One such business is Johnnie’s Custom Gun Shop which has been in operation since 1951. It is one of only a few businesses that continues to thrive despite occasional decreases in sales because it specializes exclusively in custom guns- including those made specifically for law enforcement or militia use.

The first coins were made of silver but soon began to be made out of bronze as well. In 1802, the mint became part of the United States and produced U.S.$1 notes until Notes Act $20 bills were introduced in 1928. The Anthony-Higgins House still stands as a reminder of that time and has been used as a bed and breakfast since 1897 when it was purchased by Joice Hethouse Anthony from her late husband, Revd Canon David Higgins Sr.. In 1847, MintHill had 1 store which closed about 1910 In 1907 there was an Italian restaurant called "Giovanni's" which closed about 1930 Mint Hill had 5 schools from pre-Kindergarten through high school including two churches (First Presbyterian Church and Methodist Episcopal Church) which served as social services for residents during the day while their parents worked outside or took care of children during afternoons/evenings; 2 post offices - one in 1911 and one in 1917 both closed down due to lack of mail volume; 1 fire station - this building still stands today (it serviced local housing) It also had 4 churches (First Presbyterian Church, Methodist Episcopal Churches), 3 shops - 2 grocery stores, 1 blacksmith shop & forge; 2 cemeteries: First Baptist Cemetery (1847) created from land donated by Mrs John Gist family members who also donated land for Good Samaritan Cemetery opposite First Presbyterian Church & Second Baptist Cemetery 1870s merged together becoming Mint Hill Cemetery 1916 Stein Funeral Home rink built on lot back then known as "Ridgeview Terrace" now home to Parkridge School Mint hill also hosted a farmers market every Saturday morning until 1968 when Chapel Hill moved its Farmer's Market to Duke University's Wake Forest campus across Garner Street
