In 1775, American patriot and rifleman William Johnson set up a cannon factory in Mint Hill and started manufacturing firearms for local use. The first rifles were created in this factory. After Johnson’s death in 1787, his son Benjamin took over the company and continued making firearms for local use as well as export. In 1814, Benjamin Johnson’s grandson John Carson became president of United States Arsenal Company which manufactured cannons for United States Marine Corps. John Carson also founded The Confederate Arsenal Company which manufactures cannons for Confederate forces during the American Civil War.
Mint Hill is a small town in Alamance County, North Carolina. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area and is the county seat of Alamance County. The community was founded in 1795 by Scots-Irish settlers who named it after Mount Royal in Montreal, Canada. The first settler, James McGillivray, bought land here for $1 per acre from Colonel John Swain about 1800. The original house on Mint Hill Road still stands today and has been used as a museum since 1924. In 1892, Mint Hill became the site of one of the first public schools in Alamance County when it was established as Wirtzville Elementary School. Mint Hill has experienced many changes over its history. In 1926, the Post Office moved to an new location on Spring Street and remains there to this day. A large number of people worked at several local businesses during World War II including Paintshop Joe's (now JCPenney), Biltmore Furniture Company, RCA Victor Corporation and Hilton Hotels/Amex Amoco Oil Refinery Before becoming a primarily agricultural community with few non-farm businesses until recent years due to population growth rates within Alamance County During World War I there were 5 churches in Mint Hill; 2 Ukrainian Catholic Churches - St Ignatius RCK (1897) & Our Lady Of Lourdes Mennonite Church (1914), both now gone but their services may be found online or on video or audio recordings Mint Hill also saw service during World War II when 3 brothers - Tomás Garrido Jr., Fernando Garrido and Jorge Garrido - enlisted with USMC Reserves from Mint Hill In 1957 two families –the Hardees and Smiths – acquired much of what is now known as Old Bush Station Road from Confederate General Wade Hampton After numerous acquisitions over time by various families including that of Driscoll family which purchased most of present day Elmwood Cemetery before moving into it permanently in 1984 another major change came with construction of Interstate 85 which bypassed nearby ChapelHill while still providing access to much needed goods now within walking distance such as Walgreens drugstores In 1988 old post office building burned down followed by fire sale resulting in lossof over $3 million dollars being awarded to individuals involved

Mint Hill is a small town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Durham–Chapel Hill metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Mint Hill was called "New Hope". It was located on a rise overlooking the river and consisted of some log cabins and a few homes. In 1837, New Hope's residents petitioned the state legislature to establish a school for their children. A house and land grant were granted to them and they began building schools there. In 1848, another group of settlers petitioned for land nearby and were given two acres (0.8 km²) of upland with springs at its center. They named their new village "Mint Hill" after General John Forbes' home in Scotland where he had been stationed during the Mexican-American War as commander of Ulysses S Grant's division (the Red Cloud Campaign). In 1850, Reverend Wm Hargrave founded an Episcopal church in Mint Hill which soon became one of the most popular denominations in North Carolina due to its preaching style which emphasized both personal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and social responsibility through good works
