Mint Hill is a small town located near Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded in 1792 by theettlement of farmers and tobacco planters on land that now includes the town. The population of Mint Hill peaked in 1825 at 350 people, but declined to 100 by 1830. In 1853, Mint Hill became the first town in North Carolina to be chartered as an incorporated city. By 1865, the population had increased to 1,500 people and it remained high throughout most of the 19th century. However, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), many residents took up arms against slavery and sided with Confederate forces. As a result of this conflict, mint hill lost much of its commercial and social importance. The city ceased to exist after 1865 when it was merged into Raleigh. The history of binoculars began in Mint Hill when two men named Jameson bought some lenses from a local vendor in 1824 for use as eyeglasses. Soon afterwards, other men began selling binoculars through local retailers and optical stores across North Carolina. By 1830, there were over 10 businesses providingbinoculars services across the state. Mint Hill is a small town in Orange County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chapel Hill–Durham Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mint Hill is located east of Durham on I-40 and north of Raleigh on US-27. The first people to live in what would become Mint Hill were the Lenape Indians who built their villages near what is now downtown Durham. By 1775, English colonists had established a trading post at present day MintHill after discovering valuable deposits of silver and gold there. The first settlers arrived from Virginia in small boats and landed just south of present day Durham Landing on March 11, 1775. They were led by Colonel John Tripp (1725–1800), one of the founders of Duke University and laterU.S. Senator from NC from 1795 to 1801. After landing they erected their homes along some high ground overlooking the river for about four weeks before returning downstream to build more boats and begin their journey home with cargo that would support new settlements inland (the Tar Heels). On July 4, 1776, during the North Carolina Revolution against British rule, the Continental Congress voted to recognize independence from Great Britain as a separate country under the name “North Carolina” with its own government and flag! In response Lieutenant Governor Thomas Henderson ordered all Loyalists – Americans who sided with Great Britain – out of town until further notice! A few days later Henderson called an assembly which decided that all males over 21 must leave for safety purposes only; no women or children were allowed inside! That night 10 armed men rode into town en route to take possession while everyone else scattered!!! As they arrived two cannons were looted from nearby Fort Johnston!! Aftermath: No cartridge box found on site today but descriptions match those reported in early 1800s when mint was still operational

Mint Hill was named for the mint that still stands in New York City today. The early residents of Mint Hill were farmers who grew tobacco and other crops. They built their homes from logs and simple construction methods. In 1839, they voted to incorporate as a village and name it after Mount Elliott in Scotland which had been their ancestral home before moving to America. This move inspired many other American towns to adopt similar namesakes after famous places around the world. In 1856, Nathaniel Bacon became Mayor of Henderson with help from Governor Tryon Webb Thomas. Bacon's efforts led to incorporation of Henderson into the University of North Carolina system and growth in business, education, and culture within the community. During this time, Mint Hill also saw an influx of Irish immigrants who worked on farms and in local businesses. After becoming part of UNC System, these immigrants started arriving in larger numbers which led to increased development within Mint Hill as well as new housing developments being constructed throughout the area during this time period. Today, there are over 2,000 people living inmintHilland its surroundings including Hendersonville (the only incorporated city within Durham County), Chapel Hill (a suburb located adjacent to downtown Hendersonville), HuntersVILLE (close by Interstate 85), Chapel Rock (an unincorporated community located east-northeast of Hendersonville), Waynesboro (northwest of downtown Winston-Salem) and surrounding rural areas
