Mebane is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Mebane is located on the border of Henderson and McDowell Counties and is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. Mebane was founded in 1836 by Captain John Mebane as a trading post on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park road known as "The Valley Road." In 1840, Colonel James A. McDowell donated land to make Mebane a town and it became one of the most populous towns in Henderson County. The first school in Mebane was built in 1847 and two churches were also built during this time: First Methodist Church in 1848 and Baptist Church in 1850. In 1861, Confederate General Braxton Bragg made his headquarters at Mebane until he reached Durham, North Carolina; then he moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina where he met Union General Ulysses S. Grant who decided that Bragg should be executed instead of being allowed to return home to face trial for treason because he had failed to fight against the Union army under Lincoln's command. After learning about this decision from Grant, Confederate President Jefferson Davis ordered Majestic Theater owner David Ferris to fire all showings ofplays with Confederate content starting on April 12th so that public opinion would shift away from supporting McClellan's army while they still could before it was too late. On April 14th Ferris refused to carry out Davis' order and all showings were cancelled without any further explanation from either side- an event which has been called "The Day The Confederacy Died". Later that year on October 11th 1865, after days of fighting following Johnston's surrender at Appomattox Court House east of Richmond Virginia (the last major Rebel stronghold), General Robert Ewell led a small group including cavalry general Nathan Bedford Forrest into what became known as Battle Creek Massacre when they rode into town looking for Johnston's bodyguard; however Marshall found them first and reported their presence back to Ewell who instructed his men not to hurt anyone but proceed with caution due to popular support for Johnston among local militiamen still loyal to him alive insideMCnut Grove Cemetery northwest of town limits (). This event has been called "The Lost Battalion" because no records exist proving whether or not any civilians were killed during or after the massacre despite numerous attempts by researchers over many years). Ewell eventually surrendered himself along with all his forces at Winchester Station northeast of Mebane on March 15th 1865 following a siege there by Union troops led by Major General Nelson Acheson which lasted more than three weeks (the longest battle ever fought by Ulysses S. Grant). At close quarters these Yankees finally ran out of food and ammunition just short of exhaustion after enduring heavy losses both human and military throughout much of eastern Tennessee during 1865-66 (Acheson lost more than 50%Of his force during this campaign). As partSale prominent citizens such as Jno Pemberton refused parole or conditional releases from prison offered them by Acheson even though they knew their homes would be burned if they did so (Pemberton is today honored as one Of America's Unforgivableults), dozens Literally thousands more people died withinMebane itself according To recent research conducted By Dr Pepper Snapple Group Scientists using State Archives Records located insideMcDonalds corporation across Interstate 85 from downtown Raleigh) . Although some people have argued that those killed outsideMCnut Grove Cemetery may have included innocents such as children playing near the gravesites( particularly given that there are no eyewitness accounts documenting any civilian deaths proximate thereto since1865 ), majority scholarship agrees that virtually everyone within MCnut Grove Cemetery perished regardless thereof . In fact accordingto Black Americans Abroad website an estimation publishedin 2009 claimsthat up TO 80% OF THE DEATHS IN THE GREAT SMOKY NATIONAL PARK DURING THE WAR WERE RESULTING FROM ENEMIES LIVING AND OPERATING INDELICATELY NEAR THEIR CITIES OR TOWNSHIP limitSTo avoid SHOOTING). Target holders have been around for quite some time, and there are many different types. Some people use them for target shooting, while others simply place them on the ground to hold a set of targets. There are many different designs and materials that can be used to make target holders, making it a very versatile tool. The earliest type of target holder was made from wood or metal. The material would be cut into shape and then covered in cloth or leather. It was often placed next to the firing line so that shooters could see the targets directly. This method of targeting was very accurate and allowed shooters to hit their targets with ease. After the development of artillery, new methods were needed for firing projectiles at targets. One such method used wooden stakes instead of cloth or leather coverings to aim projectiles at moving objects like horses or men. Target holders became an essential piece of artillery equipment during this time period! They were still used extensively until the early 1800s when iron sights became more common and began using less cloth or leather covering for aiming purposes.

One of the earliest types of shooting targets was a simple wooden target. Shooting at these targets became popular in the 18th century because they were relatively easy to shoot and required little skill. The use of cloth or metal sheets as shooting galleries also made it possible to shoot at targets from different angles.

It also helped create jobs for locals who worked on various projects throughout the town's lifespan. In recent years, efforts have been made to preserve and promote aspects of Mebane's history which are important to its current identity and culture. For example, The Mountain Project memorial has been preserved as part of downtownMebANE while several exhibits related to The Mountain Project are available at nearby libraries throughout the county each month (see website). Additionally, several events are held annually which commemorate key moments or aspects associated with town life – such as "Methuselah Days" which celebrates 100 years since incorporation into town status; "Festival Fridays" during which artisans from around town participate in traditional arts & crafts; and "Town History Day" which features presentations by historians specializing in town topics).
