The inventor’s son developed Huntscope after his father’s death in 1942—the first company devoted exclusively to producing objective ranging sights for shotguns (later also becoming available for handguns). By 1967 Huntscope had sold more than 2 million scopes worldwide! Mebane is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first European to visit Mebane was explorer and missionary George Catlin in 1796. At that time the area now known as Gaston County was sparsely populated and uninhabited. In 1822, John Covington founded what would become Mebane on a small stream called Pigeon Creek. The name Mebane came from an Indian word meaning "place where there are hogs." Today much of what once constituted Mebane has been destroyed by development or replaced by new housing developments but some of the original buildings still stand today including the Masonic Lodge which served as the first post office in Gaston County. In 1836, Governor Julius Coker created Gaston County out of parts of Dickenson and Moore Counties following his recommendation to do so because of its rich coal deposits. The county courthouse and jail were built in Mebane in 1840 and 1841 respectively. In 1870, part of Raleigh (then called Surry) became attached to Gaston County when it was divided between North Carolina and South Carolina along with other southern counties during Reconstruction after the American Civil War due to tensions over voting rights among northern states following their victory over Confederate forces at starting Battle for Independence on April 12, 1865 Minerals wealth led to rapid growth throughout much of early 20th century Mebane although some residents struggled financially during this time period The loss of World War II production brought economic hardship for many residents beginning in 1945 until they were eventually able to overcome these difficulties In 1957-1958 a new high school named East High School opened with classes starting September 16th while also serving as homecoming court for students from nearby Maiden Elementary School which had been closed since 1957 due to low enrollment
