Mebane is located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and lies along Interstate 40 between Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Mebane was founded by Judge William Tryon on October 12, 1794 as Tryon's Station. Tryon named his new settlement for General James Meade, who had been killed during the American Revolution in what is now Virginia. The first white settler to arrive in Mebane was John White on December 21, 1814. White built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it "Mebane". A post office called "Mebane" was established in 1824, but it was discontinued in 1828 because of repeated Indian raids into neighboring counties. In 1839 Congressman John Sitton created Fayetteville Township (later Alamance) within Mebane limits after discovering that Albemarle County lacked a township center due to its small size and lack of available land for development. Colonel Richard Henderson donated two thousand acres (0 hectares) of land east of present-day Main Street to form Fayetteville Township which became the county seat of Alamance County on July 1, 1840 after Henderson's death from a illness unrelated to his donation. In 1861 Ulysses S Grant served as governor of North Carolina for one year before leaving office and being elected president by Democratic Party members over Republican nominee Abraham Lincoln; Meade would later become independent when he ran for reelection as an Independent against Lincoln in 1865 but lost handily due to Union military forces occupying his state during that year's war effort). The townspersons erected four churches – all early Gothic Revival style structures – between 1840 and 1860: First Presbyterian Church (1840), Second Presbyterian Church (1841), Third Presbyterian Church (1846), Fourth Presbyterian Church (1860). These churches remain extant today as well as several other buildings including the Masonic Lodge No 2 dating back to 1848 which still functions as a business establishment today known locally as "The Horseshoe." This period also saw some significant changes with respect to social mores within Mebane – starting with increasing numbers becoming literate thanks largely to subscription boxes mailed directly from Philadelphia via horse-drawn mailcarriers throughout much of America during this time period – while also experiencing rapid population growth fueled by evangelical Baptist missionaries coming through town seeking conversions among local residents primarily among men working westward into bondage under Confederate rule following the Civil War era until Reconstruction began more than fifty years later following passage of The Thirteenth Amendment granted voting rights citizenship en masse across all states followed suit by similar Amendments ratified subsequently giving African Americans full suffrage beginning nearly sixty years later following another insurrection led by Black Panther leader Huey Newton

Mebane is a town in Vance County, North Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1881 by Scots-Irish immigrants and became a cotton mill town. The population was 12,594 at the 2010 census. Mebane is part of the Chapel Hill–Winston-Salem metropolitan area. The first white settler in Mebane was John Denton, who came from Scotland in 1776. Mebane Baptist Church was built in 1881 and is one of the oldest churches located in Vance County. The building has been used for worship since then. The current pastor is Rev. Drayton Witherspoon III and the church had an attendance of 906 people as of 2015. Mebane also contains two other churches: First Presbyterian Church (founded 1911) and Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1865). First PresbyterianChurch has been used for worship since 1901 while Methodist EpiscopalChurch was first built in 1865 but didn't come into use until after World War II when it became known as Christchurch United Methodist Church because of its affiliation with that denomination's predecessor organization, the Christian Churches and Societies of America (CCSA). The Mebane School District #2 which serves students from pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade operates out of four schools - Mebane Elementary School, main high school; Lower Meade Middle School; Upper Meade Middle School; and Eastside High School - all located within five miles of downtown Mebane on I-40/US 421/exit 244B southbound between exit 244A & 245A eastbound . There are also three charter schools which serve students from Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade - Highland Lakes Academy Preschool; Mountain View Academy Prekindergarten to sixth grades; Harding Academy Pre K to 12th grades ; Knoxville Early Childhood Development Center which serves children ages 0 to 3 years old before their family moves them to their home or guardian’s home with caretaker services until they reach age 5 years old ; Cherokee Hills Intermediate Schools serving students from Prekindergarten through 8th grade along with Cherokee Hills Jr./Sr HighSchool operated by Trinity Lutheran School District 205 which offers programs leading up to 9th Grade levels such as accelerated learning opportunities for low income students
