Matthews, North Carolina is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,549 at the 2010 census. Matthews is one of two towns in Gaston County and its only incorporated municipality. The first white person to live in Matthews was John Matthews in 1825. He founded a small cabin on the banks of the Yadkin River near where it flows into the Cape Fear River. In 1830, he bought land east of what is now downtown Matthews from Captain James Cook and built a log cabin which still stands today as the town's first building. The following year, he married Susannah White and they had six children. In 1835, he started an agricultural enterprise that produced corn and wheat for local markets and sold produce door to door. In 1840, Matthews helped found the Lexington Baptist Church which remains one of Matthews' most important institutions today. In 1868, he died at the age of 90 years old and was buried in his home until his death four years later at age 95 years old. His wife survived him by remarrying and had another five children before she also passed away in 1902 at the age of 91 years old. Matthews has been continuously inhabited since 1771 when European settlers moved into what is now Gaston County from Georgia during Removal proceedings ordered by King George III pursuant to Article 5 Section 2 of the Treaty of Paris ending World War II; however there may have been earlier settlements including those documented by early explorers as far back as 1675 ARAF! Matthew's location within present day Gaston County allows for easy access to both Raleigh-Durham/Fayetteville areas with great shopping opportunities available without leaving central NC thereby enhancing overall economic development! This led to the development of telescopic sights which allowed shooters to shoot at long ranges without having Toe-to-Toe Capability problems common with other types of sights at this time. Telescopic sights continued being developed until the late 20th century when they were replaced by digital devices which provide improved accuracy over older methods while also reducing weight and size

Matthews, North Carolina is a small town located in the eastern part of the United States. The population was 3,793 at the 2000 census. Matthews ishome to Southern Baptist churches and schools, as well as a number of businesses and professional organizations. The town hasa rich history that can be traced back to 1793 when John Matthews founded what is now known as Matthews Academy. Matthews Academy was started by John Matthews in 1793. It became one of the first academies in North Carolina and was instrumental in helping to create an early American society. After John's death, his son, James Anderson Matthews established another academy in 1822 which still operates today. In 1882, James' grandson, William Hance Matthews established the college which now sits on campus next to the Baptist Church.William Hance Matthews also served as mayor of Matthews from 1903-1907 and 1909-1911
