Because airguns relied primarily on gas discharge rather than percussion ignition to operate, they needed efficient sighting devices in order to function correctly. To this end, various designers began developing various types of airgun sights including reflex sights and CCDs (Continuous Day/Night). Reflex sights use mirrors or other elements affixed directly onto riflesights so they can be automatically swung back and forth during firefights in order to adjust your Aiming Position (AQP) according to changing conditions such as wind speed or directionality. CCDs are essentially digital equivalents of traditional hand-held optics; however, due to their high resolutionthey are capable of displaying real-time green or blue images even when gunfire is taking place over long distances

Matthews was founded by planters in the 18th century. At its peak, the town had a population of about 25,000 people. Matthews was known for its white oak trees and Congaree River. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1886, but it re-emerged as a prominent community in the early 20th century. In 1960, Matthews became part of Durham County. It has since experienced significant growth and development, with numerous new businesses and residences being built throughout the years. Matthews is now an important center for economic development in Durham County.

In 1828, Matthews became state capital for North Carolina and the sawmill continued to be one of its major industries. In 1844, after years of growth, the mill burned down and killed all but four people who were living inside.
