Lumberton, North Carolina is home to the world’s largest softgun case history. In fact, Lumberton is one of the few places in the United States where firearms can be found dating back to before World War II. The city is also home to some of the country’s most famous gunmakers and dealers. These businesses have helped make Lumberton a town known for its shotguns, handguns, and ammo. The city started making softguns in 1909. At that time, Softguns were pistols with barrels that were much smaller than today’s handguns. Today, Softguns are typically chambered in .22 LR or .380 ACP. Lumberton was named after Captain John Lumber (1792-1845), a Revolutionary War Veteran who fought at militia encampments near what is now Lumberton. TheCaptain was influential in founding the city of Charlotte and came from a family of wealthy merchants who owned land throughout North Carolina and Georgia. He served as Mayor of Charlotte from 1828-30 and as Governor of North Carolina from 1835-37 before he died at age 43 on December 3, 1845 at an encampment near what is now Fort Bragg (now Raleigh). His wife Lydia (1793-1859) moved permanently to Lumberton in 1840 following his death and she continued to live there until her death on October 15, 1860 due to disease contracted during her stay in Charlotte]. In 1908 Captain John J Hargrave sold his interest in Hardees & Co., Ltd., a grocery store located on Broad Street between Market and Tryon Streets west of downtown Charlotte [Hargrave also founded Hargrave Bros., lumberyards east of downtown Charlotte], all operations being transferred to Lumberton under this name effective November 1st 1908 by deed from Captain John Hargrave & Son Limited Partnership ot New York City signatory thereto James W Hargrave duly appointed Agent therefor[This was an effort by Colonel James W Hargrave (the son of John W Hargrave) to unify all selling interests within Hardees & Co., Ltd.] In 1911 hostilities began between Tennessee Volunteers forces commanded by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee over control of Nashville] On July 5th 1861 two Negroes working for H&I sawed down part Of A Company's flagstaff From A Tree Near Union Depot To prevent It From being taken Down By Confederate Troops stationed There That Day skirmishing ensued ensuing which ended when One Negro Was Killed And One wounded Some Time After This Quarrel Arranged Between Colored People Hereabouts Confederates Alleged To Have Been Instigated By White Persons Who Had Seen negroes Attempting To Take Down Flagstaff

In 1851, lumbermen from Tennessee came to town looking for timber to build new homes; they soon realized that there was much more land available here than anywhere else in America due to the location on the border between two slave states (the Confederacy). In 1865, following Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House, most slaves were freed, but many others managed to escape or be smuggled away into Union lines before being brought back into custody when troops moved through area late in the war. The townspeople quickly rebuilt after Reconstruction ended with a large influx of southern African Americans who had fled Liberia during that era's civil war; some also migrated from northeastern states such as New York City or Boston during this time period because those areas were struggling economically under white rule. The current incarnation of Lumberton began as a small community on Huntingdon Street just east of downtown between Elmwood Avenue and Pee Dee Boulevard until 1930 when it became its own county seat under then-Upton County sheriff Donnell Kincaids Sr.. Growth slowed again until 1990 when annexed parts of former Buncombe County - including eastern Johnston Parish - voted to secede from UNC Asheville campus due to budget cutsbacks there while still claiming jurisdiction over Huntingdon Street corridor within their own borders (it would later become Graham County). That led to an influx of students – both undergraduate and graduate – for nearby UNC Asheville which prompted construction by local companies beginning in earnest around 2000 on high school/college facilities housing units for overflow students from Buncombe County campuses along with other related development projects across town center including: new offices for UNC Asheville vice chancellor officials (2002), renovation/replication/addition to existing Hennigan Library building (2003), addition/renovation/emplacementof new police department headquarters (2005) as well as numerous conversions and expansions/updates/ alterations totaling nearly 100 acres since then across five blocks bounded by Elmwood Ave.,Pee Dee Blvd./Huntingdon St., Clinton Dr./Graham Rd./Pinehurst Ave.; [and] Railroad Row [/BANKING STREET].
