In 1911, Lumberton became the home of United States Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and later US Army Garrison Fort Bragg. In 1942, Lumberton became World War II Headquarters for First Marine Division during Operation Neptune’s Spear; this role lasted until 1945 when it moved back to Camp Lejeune. Today, Lumberton continues its tradition as an important community within its surrounding area by hosting many events throughout the year including arts festivals, family reunions and rodeos which attract thousands of people each year!

Lumberton, North Carolina is a town in Gates County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. Lumberton is located on the Yadkin River and Highway 11. The first settler in what is now Lumberton was John Pritchard in 1788. He procured land on which to build a house and began farming it. In 1837, when the Waccamaw River flooded, Mr Pritchard's house floated down the river and was saved by his son-in-law who had built a dam upstream on the Waccamaw River. In 1838, General James Longstreet during his campaign against Robert Easley invaded Gates County and passed through Lumberton on his way to fight with Easley at Waxhaw Creek Bridge. General Longstreet's men left their baggage carts behind at Pritchard's farmhouse so that they could get food for their horses while away from home. As a result of this event local farmers developed an interest in buying goods carried by General Longstreet's army back home as they realized that they would not have to worry about such things while fighting him. In 1845 two people - Aiken Heman and Samuel Winterbothem - started a blacksmith shop in what is now downtown Lumberton serving as its first customer. This shop continued operations until 1865 when it burned down due to lack of maintenance by its owners.; The original building still stands today corner of High Street and Main Avenue near the courthouse complex; It has been said that this old building may be more significant historically than any other structure in Lumberton because it served as both an early commercial center for the townspeople (which likely means that it predated Cashtown) as well as being one of the few buildings still standing from before railroads came into town; Today downtown Lumberton features several restaurants including Ben Hur’s Italian Restaurant which opened its doors in 1951 Downtown also contains many historical homes dating back to pioneer days like Mrs Beattie’s House which was built about 1800; There are also several churches present including First Baptist Church which was consecrated in 1865 next door to Heman’s blacksmith shop; The Methodist Episcopal Churchyard Chapel also dates back to 1865; Finally there are some small businesses scattered around downtown such as Lamar’s Barber Shop (which closed up shop years ago), Gopher Coal & Coke Company (closed up years ago), Lowes Hardware Store (closed up years ago), Barnes Pharmacy (closed up years ago) among others

Lumberton is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lumberton is named after General James Longstreet and his father-in-law Colonel John Catesby. Lumberton was founded in 1795 by Captain John Pickens and Timothy Pickens as a small plantation on the Pee Dee River. In 1824, it became an incorporated village and was renamed Lumberton in honor of General James Longstreet's victory over Johnston at Second Manassas Swamp in 1851. In 1865, Lumberton became a town when it annexed Allegany County. The first store in Lumberton opened on Main Street in 1825. The first school was built near what is now the courthouse in 1830; it served as both a public school and later as Gradeschool #2 (now Alamance Community College). In 1860, the first railroad came to Lumberton with trackage running parallel to Main Street between historic buildings on ChurchRoad and Elm Road; this helped spur economic development which brought new businesses such as breweries, grocery stores, cotton ginners, furniture dealers, lumber yards and more all into town during the late 19th century. During World War II many soldiers were housed at Fort Bragg (located just east of town) until they could be moved to other camps or garrisoned stateside under army command; fortunately for Lumberton residents no damage resulted from military activity within their community during that time period! In 1957/58 when Alamance County consolidated with neighboring Dare County form what would become known as the Research Triangle Region we experienced one of our most Significant Economic Developments due to increased industrial production resulting from technology advances setting off new waves of jobs throughout our rural areas providing much needed revenue for local government services including schools etc.; also contributing considerable amounts towards building an impressive Memorial Stadium complex on Town Common whichlater replaced older facilities located adjacent to High School while still maintaining essential athletics operations such as track & field programs wrestling & football teams lacrosse & basket ball
