Lumberton is a town located in Gates County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lumberton was founded in 1837 as a store town on the banks of the Yadkin River by Captain John Hogg and his family. In 1881, Lumberton became a city after it was annexed by Charlotte. The lumber industry played an important role in Lumberton's growth and there were many mills until the 1950s when production shifted to China. Today, Lumberton has a few small businesses and two libraries which provide access to historical materials dating back to before 1800. The first settler in what is now Lumberton was Captain John Hogg who arrived in 1776 with his family from Scotland. He built a cabin on an old plantation called "Hogtown" near present day Spring Lake. After several years of farming and trading along the Yadkin River he decided to open a store for local residents which he named "The Loggers' Store". In 1837, he moved his business to what is now known as First Street and operated it until 1840 when he sold it to Augustus Beall who renamed it "The Bealls'. On February 11th, 1861, during Confederate troops' attempt to burn down The Loggers' Store they set fire to building #2 which burned down completely leaving only rubble behind In 1881, after annexation by Charlotte, Lumberton became one of seventeen cities that formed Charlotte-Mecklenburg County (later North Carolina). This event marked the beginning of heavy development within downtown with several large office buildings being erected including The Post Office (1902), Wofford Hall (1904), and Bank of America Tower (1996). Lumberton is a town in Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Asheville–Buncombe metropolitan area. The community was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1825 as a post office called Osmondtown. In 1851, it became the townsite of Lumberton after being chosen from a range of towns in Union County by commissioners appointed by the state legislature. The name derives from two nearby forests – one on the east side of town and another to its west – which had been designated for lumber production. The first sawmill opened in 1853 and became known as "the Old Mill." In 1865, Lumberton had an enlargement of its school system with a new building designed by local architect Caryl Bachelder and built using slave labor. It remained an all-white school until 1955 when it started to admit black students. In 1870, John Hinson erected what is now known as "The House" – later renamed “Hinson”s Store – on Main Street in Lumberton for his wife and her family to live while he operated a general store next door. The store continued to operate into the 20th century despite occasional vandalism or damage by elements like fire ants that threatened to destroy it; however, no major incidents have occurred since then. One notable event during this time came when Hinson donated $10,000 towards construction of the Buncombe County Courthouse in 1925; this donation helped spur development around town that continues today including several high-rise buildings along Main Street between West Broad Street and East High Street (now called State street). In 1898, Lumberton received its own ZIP code thanks to President Grover Cleveland's Executive Order 8802 which required all U.S.-based mail be delivered via Rural Route 601 through small rural areas without city services available such as Streetsboro or Chapel Hill so mail could be more easily transported and sorted without having to go through larger cities like Raleigh or Asheville which were closer to their customers' homes but also served large amounts of postal traffic outside their borders due to their greater size and infrastructure compared to smaller rural communities like Lumberton whose residents did not have access either directly or indirectly to these larger services). Although seemingly unrelated at first glance - this type of attack could potentially lead anyone who is victimized by spam emails (whether they know about it or not) into becoming suspicious about who may be behind these campaigns rather than just taking action based off simple suspicion alone.). After investigating further into this particular email address(es), authorities determined that this was not actually a legitimate offer but rather a scam originating from China attempting phishing techniques against unsuspecting victims; however caution should still always be exercised when receiving unsolicited Emails claimingto be from friends or family members in order not to become spammed again!). Linderontown Elementary School was remodeled between 1951-1955 using funds provided by JT Timber Company owner John Tatum Sr..
