In Lincolnton, North Carolina, there is a museum dedicated to scopes and optics. The museum was founded in 1984 by the late Dr. Roy P. Hammett, an expert on microscopes and Optics who also served as president of the American Optical Society. The museum has several sections on microscope history, optical equipment history, optics research and education, and more. Lincolnton is a town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 9,068 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton had a population of 10,821 as of July 1, 2019. Lincolnton is located in eastern Rutherford County on the southern edge of the Pee Dee Mountains. It is bordered to the north by Mocksville and to the east by Iredell County. Interstate 85 passes through Lincolnton and connects it with Charlotte to the south and Greensboro to the west. U.S. Route 421 runs concurrent with I-85 through Lincolnton and connects it with Allentown to the north and New Bern to the south. The town was founded on November 3, 1812, when General James Robertson's brigade burned down what is now known as Robert Easley's house in what is now termed "Robertson Square". The town name comes from Colonel John Colleton's order that all stores within five miles be closed on December 30th so farmers could get their goods ready for shipment to Fort Monroe during operations against Seminole Indians in 1813-14. At first there were just two stores - one called 'Dutchman's', which still stands today near US 421 Business Loop (SR 522), and another called 'Miller's'. In 1816 over 60 businesses opened up in Lincolnton alone! In 1840 mail was brought into Lincolnton from Asheboro by wagon using an old track built along present day SR 727 between Asheboro and Rocky Mount; this route became known as Main Street or simply "The Road". On February 14th of that year someone set fire to a small store building here in front of present day US 421 & Main Street where local citizens gathered for a picnic before burning any buildings they found across town! This event led directly to creation of Old Main Square today! In 1845 there were only six people living in Lincolnton when Cherokee traders arrived looking for new land near Hendersonville; however within months they had put up three more stores – one on each side of main square! In 1865 Reverend H D White organized a Methodist church here after coming across some Cherokees living amongst white farmers around that time who were escaping detection at Fort Sumter during the American Civil War because they didn't want war breaking out among their own people; this also helped start what would become known as Greeneville Township! From 1870 until 1977 most grocery sales took place at First Presbyterian Church located east of main square; however starting around 1978 large box retail stores began opening up all around town making shopping much easier than ever before! Today you can find many different types of businesses lining main square including cafes/restaurants/bars/mall type formats while smaller shops line side streets throughout downtown!!! There are several churches located throughout Lincolenton including First Presbyterian (founded 1840), Second Presbyterian (founded 1850), Baptist (1860), Methodist (1865), Pentecostal (1910) & Free Grace Lutheran Church (1988). There also appears to be quite a few bars open throughout downtown area such as Bluegrass Tavern (#4204 S Pettigrew St.), Joe's Pub #4206 S Pettigrew St., The Pit #4207 S Pettigrew St., etc…. These bars often feature live music nightly !! There are also several restaurants scattered throughout downtown such as BBQ'd Pizza (#301 N Tryon Ave.), Golden Corral Chinese restaurant (#2121 W Broadwalk Rd.), Pie Face pizzeria (#2202 Elmwood Rd.), Harvest Grille #2203 Elmwood Rd., etc….. Some popular nightlife venues include Pintxo’s Live Music Lounge #4019 S Pettigrew St., Cowboy Bebop Bar#4015 S Pettigrell St., Hi-Wire #4017 S Pettigrew St., etc….. Although not always affiliated with any particularChurch or denomination these places tend provide some great live entertainment options!!

Lincolnton is a town in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. Lincolnton is located on the Cumberland River and includes the villages of Belmont and Morehead City. It is part of the Charlotte metropolitan area. The first Euro-American settlers in what is now Rutherford County were three brothers, Nathaniel Culp (1792–1868), John Culp (1801–1885) and William Payne (1800–1873). They arrived from Virginia in 1796, just before the American Revolution. The Payne brothers were among the earliest white settlers in western North Carolina. Their home was located near present-day Lincolnton on Canes Neck Creek. There are several theories about why they named their new land Lincolnton after Lord Colchester, an important British nobleman who had helped finance King George III's army during the American Revolution: one theory suggests that they were influenced by John Locke's famous statement "No man knows his own strength till he tries to take it by force." Another theory suggests that they derived their name from a local chief named Lancaster who had been scalped by English forces during the Regency War (1793-1697). In 1802, Nathaniel Culp married Susannah Pemberton and began to farm around present-day Belmont village while John Culp and William Payne built homes east of Belmont on a tract known as “the place where Pond” now stands. These early settlers erected small log cabins which still stand today within sight of more recent homes withinbelmont village. In 1815, when Rutherford County was created out of portions of Johnston County following statehood under General Assembly Act No. 844, Lincolnton became its sole town status with a population of only five residents; however it continued to be governed by highly effective trustees appointed by its founder/town fathers until 1824 when all towns within Rutherford County were granted full independence under General Assembly Act No. 975 In 1830 Walter Witherspoon became postmaster for Lincolnton followed soon thereafter by his brother Benjamin Witherspoon In 1840 two young women—Fanny Kemble Wilson and Abigail Bogan—joined forces with other proto- Feminists to start a school for girls called Bridgewater Female School House which functioned intermittently until 1861 when Mrs Fanny Kemble Wilson sold it and moved away to Radfordville due to problems associated with female education being open to men only then did Bridgewater Female School House become an institute managed entirely by women serving primarily Boys! Thanks largely theretofore Ladies! ladies have always run our schools hereabouts! A few years ago we had seventy nine students attending our Institute thro’out most parts o' this county! Now there are but twenty four students enrolled at our Institution belonging both sexes fra'the people hereabouts!
